Turbo tail disassembly
I was interested in removing the grill from my 930 tail in order to refinish it as it has become gray and faded. I started to disassemble it from below, but as I examined it closer, I became concerned that it may be riveted to the sheet metal portion of the tail. As I examined things further, I realized that many of the bolts require quite a bit of manipulation to remove. Thus, before I went to all the trouble of removing the bolts only to find it still riveted to the tail, I was curious if others had experience with this.
Any help appreciated. Thanks |
This might help

wow, so many parts just for a whale tail...

Thanks -
It does seem as if the grill portion according to the diagram is riveted to its surround sheet metal. I guess that's where taping comes in. |
No No No, it all comes apart. You may have to remove the tail to get to the right angle to get the screens out. Everything is bolted together. The rivets are to hold the tail upper and lower castings together. Part #24 has to be removed, and I really don't remember, but the hole in the deck lid is too small to get it through. It wil not take you very long to R&R the tail.

What are the dimensions of the hole in he deck lid?

I had to drill out the rivets to repaint mine.

I'll just go ahead and take it all apart and see what I'm left with.
