3.0L heater motor delete

anyone done this? i have found some threads in the way back machine that discuss a 3.2 removal, but nothing on a SC. my fan is no longer working.

i would like to figure out how to re connect all of the heater hoses that go into the fan correctly to maintain unforced heat when its desired. i would imagine all three hoses that converge there need to be tied together? any experience here? any method found to reattache the ducting cleanly?

Yah search heater back date - tons of threads. You can buy the parts used pretty easy from a yard.

The duct is the black thing under the Bosch coil. Some ducts are metal, mine is plastic. There is the line that runs from the duct to the heat exchanger. I also replaced the black metal piece that goes around the engine b/c it has a the hole for the line running to the heat exchanger in a different spot than the stock one. Same kind of thing on the other side.

Oh man that hurts my head when I read it. Oh well.

I have an additional question on this topic! My car has the auto heat option. I would like to get rid of it and put the 2 manual controls in. What would I need and where can I get the parts for it? THANKS!!!

As an interim (read: free) measure when my fan died, I removed the squirrel-cage fan and the motor guts and put it all back together. The motor housing is part of the structure that holds the ducting in place, so it needs to be there. In fact, I still have the empty motor housing, it's yours if you want it.

When I rebuilt the engine, I backdated to the -74 ducting.

The heat seems to be about the same, but the engine compartment is much cleaner with the old system.

im looking to clear some space. hoped to rid myself of the air pump at the same time, but ab2683 will put the k-bosh on that. seems my 78 will never be smog exempt.

thanks for the offer tom, but if it comes to it i will gut my fan like you did. the parts seem cheap enough, sans the one duct for 150 on a thread listed above.

Check with Uncle Zak, Easy or Parts Heaven for backdate parts.
