Now this is cool. In the current Road & Track is an article that Ruf is bringing the RGT RS to the states, 15 more HP than the GT3, 338 lbs lighter, and has a ducktail to boot. Very cool!!

I saw that just last night, and I'm a little disappointed in Alois this time as far as the "looks" goes. It's got what looks to be bolt on flares that add very little to the fender. It looks flat and hardly any wider than a stock 996. Of course the angle and color of the one in the magazine could have fooled my eyes, but it looked like a half arse attempt to add muscle to the looks, but the result looks more ghetto wannabee.
Now the engine...WELLLLLLL! |

There was one in the outer paddock at Rennsport. It looks very mean in the flesh, you would never mistake it for anything else! This one was gumball blue w/German plates. I'm not fond of 96s, but that was one serious looking car. I've got about ten pictures of it, if I could just figure out how to post them.

No, no...I like Ruf's work, I just don't think those flat pastie flares are worthy.

yes, the tail looks delayed out there...in the original RS, and on my car, the tail is very abrupt.
In this car, it's kinda hanging on for dear life. So it's a bit different, but in time, I think we'll come to like it a lot more. I'm sure it's more refined engineering wise with whatever its function is.

Yah that big bump right above the duck is a little odd. Probably had to leave it there. I agree the flares seem unnesseary, the stock GT3 looks very aggressive in person - IMHO. Ilike the stock GT3 nose better too...
I want a beat 99' put the duck and the wheels on and a GT3 nose, adjustable suspension and elephant ear seats - see ya at the track!

Looks like they went back to a Yellowbird idea, it had the SC flares instead of 930 size to reduce high speed drag.

How much extra drag does the wider flares create?
Does the wider wheel contact patch due to being able to have wider wheels/tires counter balance the extra drag?

I like it also and I love the retro duck tail concept. BTW, they are only available in the IROC Country colors from the 72-73 IROC series. Pictured is Mexico Blue.

Just goes to show that a duck looks good on anything. Even leading a duck's a$$.
By the way.... those wheels don't look very RUF-ish |

I Love it but it will never be as good as the first Yellowbird!
If you were to give the 1988 YB the lightweight treatment.. it would SMASH! anything Porsche and maybe it's maker has to bring to the table in todays time.... nothing can beat the raw feel of a mid year high HP 911.... Sheesh! this New RGT/RS has Crushing performance specs.. and is cheaper than a 04 GT2.. what a Joke.. RUF is one hell of a guy.... Eric
