I love my Targa. A little safer for the kiddies than a cab I think and loads of fun for me, especially with the top off. Doesn't squeak at all, or at least I can't hear it squeaking while the top is stored in my garage.
Here's the kids abusing dad.

I have always thought it was a great compromise. I also really like the 993 versions. I guess I just like targas!

Cool

I'm not a 9/10's driver. I don't even play one on TV! I do enjoy some mods on my car however. Generally the bolt on kind that do some good.

I have posted these pics before. This old car has a lot of miles on it but it will get better over time with some of the experience that I've had with previous cars. My first Porsche was a '72T Targa. It was a light nimble thing that ran reasonably well on a better pump grade of gas.

This car is was delivered with a lift off hard top. It doesn't have the associated rattles of the soft top, however it's still not that handy for one person to horse around.

It's about to get a wiring fuse panel redo and the doors will have to come apart to redo the window regulators. Then next will be some suspension mods. Some seats etc.

I really like taking the top off and just driving it around.

I have a Sunroof 930 also. It just is not the same type of fun car this one is.

Good luck,
David Duffield

Has anyone replaced the rubber sides of the Targa top? How easy/difficult is this?

If your talking about the rubber sides that seal the window... It is very easy. The trick is to get a good vulcanizing glue for the rubber front and rear seals. Other than that, it's remove four screws, pull off the piece, replace, and reglue the rubber trim/seals. Then you'll need to fine tune the fit... No worries.

I put the new and improved front targa clips on and the one right in front of my head keeps popping out. I've elongated the slots where the machine screws go and moved the clip closer and it still pops out, any suggestions? If yours rattles (mine does) check to make sure you have the plastic "condoms" that go over the two back locating pins. It tightens them up a lot. They're available from Pelican.

Cool

Yes! I am so glad to see fellow Targas standing up to be counted... my first P, got it a year ago, and it's an '80 SC in copper brown metallic, with poo brown leather interior. I have been fighting with leaks since the first rain (in Vancouver, we get a lot of rain. Come to think of it, a sunroof coupe would have been a better choice... but I'm smitten now!). New seals all round, and just a couple weeks ago caved in and got Dan Petchel to set me up with a beauty refurb. Wow, they actually fit that well, eh? Never would have guessed...

It's been hot and sunny here all week, and the new top has been sitting in the sun per Dan's instructions -- but off the car (I hope he understands!).

Not at home, so no pics for you yet... coming...

Nice to meet you all,

Mike

Targas are often a love/hate thing. Either you love 'em or you hate 'em. Those that hate 'em....well, they don't know what they're missing!
