Directions say to use contact cement . is this right?

Also, how far lower should i attach the "911SC" emblem....it currently interfers with the new tail. thanks

I don't think so. I didn't use any contact cement when I mounted the Carrera tail to my decklid. You will need to remove the 911SC emblem to properly install the tail. The best thing to do is get the tail on the decklid, then measure and mark where you want the emblem, and then drill the holes. Here's a thread that might help you with the installation:

thank you, helped quite a bit.

also, is it possible to fill the corner with the black rubber with respect to the red fiberglass part or
am i dreaming? i could disassemble the entire thing and try to fix it or.....is this common with aftermarket bases. I'm very picky when it comes to these things. please advise.

see pic attached, shows "gap" in corner.

No need to fill the corner with anything.
Some of the bolts from the rubber might too tight. Judging by the little dip in the rubber in the above picture I would guess you overtightened the stud in that area. Reach inside the tail and make sure all of the bolts are tightened just enough. Don't overtighten them, as this can cause damage to the rubber.

Did you get the factory seal that fits between the spoiler and the deck lid? It has contact cement on one side to hold the seal in place on the spoiler. This makes it much easier to stretch out the seal so it fits correctly. Then you just flip it over and bolt in on.

no, the seal i got with it didn't have anything on it.....i'm getting sick of this aftermarket bullshchit, nothing ever fits right, there's special alignment/drilling/assembly required....nothing like the original.

its too late now anyway,it's all put together now.

On Ramp, it's never too late. Here is the gasket you need:
Carrera Tail Base Seal, 911 (1984-89), Each C-512-215-00 $23.00
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911E/POR_911E_weathr_pg3.htm#item14 . Just remove the decklid with the tail, undo the tail from the lid and then put the proper gasket on. It is a pain having to take it all apart again, but it is worth it!

As much as I hate to say it, the best place to find the metal mesh grill is at your nearest Porsche dealership's parts department. It looks like you need number's 19 and 20 on the following diagram.
