Porsche Crest

LOTS of people will be going. Don't forget sun sreen, a hat or an umbrella, and ear plugs. As it gets closer to July, some Pelican heads in the Portland area will probably recommend a local watering hole to meet For more info try: http://www.americanlemans.com/tickets/tickets.asp

Gunter, You're thinking of the ALMS race in Portland not the classic LeMans in France.

Good point, not quite awake there, I'll watch the classic LeMans on Speed but have to make due with heat, dust, and noise in Portland. Well, there is good beer available and we'll suffer through.

I'm going with my Carrera and one passenger (one of my sons), together with either my ole' friend with his Morgan +4 (wow, that will be s-l-o-w!), or (more likely) with a bunch of other 911's, be they Brits, Dutch, German, Belgian or ...yes... a bunch of wild Frenchies.
Beware: since last year, France is cracking down on speeding drivers like nothin' seen before; drive (more or less) legally!
I haven't bought tickets and don't intend to, I'll get them at the gate and "sleep" next to my car in my old hiking tent. Might even bring a portable barbecue, because Le Mans French fries are both expensive and taste like they been fried in castor oil, and their mayo sucks.

Thanks for the speed advise Paul, do you know if radar-detectors are legal in France?

There's a convoy of about 8 early cars from DDK going to Classic Le Mans. We're all going over on the Newhaven to Dieppe boat and then heading to the campsite via a few pubs!

We'll be having a BBQ at the officail campsite so if you're about come find us, more info can be found on Nick's site: www.early911.co.uk

Have a great time but yep... be careful.
You'll have your radar detectors confiscated if the cops catch up with you (normally at the autoroute tolls).

We were fined £500 two years ago for speeding. The surrounding 100km, especially to the north towards the Channel crossings are swarming with police waiting to relieve you of your cash !!!

Do not let french policemen see your radar detector. In 911&porsche world a couple of years a go there was a story about a guy that where taken in for this, it was expensive i think it was 500£=800Euro=950$
Talking about a worldwide forum here!!!!!

We don't need radar detectors, just an RSR up infront for the gendarmes to chase!

Svandamme- sorry my baby only has one pilot!

I WILL make it to the Grand Pris one year!!!
In the meantime, you all have a great time.
Shame about the local cops or 'Flicks' as they are called in French.
Any other time of year those local roads are just gagging to be eaten up buy a hungry Porsche.
I tore around those country roads well in excess of any speed limit safely in October last year with not a soul in sight, in fact I never saw a cop all week!.
I even hammered around the open road section of the circuit without a cop in sight!!!.

Enjoy!
