I love my seats. Great support and actually very comfortable. Definitely more communicative and I did price them new and was quoted anywhere from $ 5 to a crazy 8K each for RS seats.

Someone may be able to get a good deal on these and the stiching work is really not that espensive unless the leather is bad.

Dude, you have had a lot of problems with sellers of Porsche stuff.

I have had some problems with German auto dismantlers too. I bought something off of ebay from them which was sorta overpriced anyway. I have been waiting for two weeks for them to ship out item and have not heard from them. I called and left a message to cancel order but still have not heard a reply from them yet. I am hoping to hear from them on Tuesday or I am going to go to the bank and put a hold on my credit card. It is frustrating to buy something on ebay and not have it shipped shortly after the money is in hand. I was going to do this project over the 4 day memorial weekend but since I did not have parts I am just laying around the house.....

Now I am through venting...

Ricaro PP seats in leather? Going price is $1300 new. Rails can run the price up some but not $5K per seat!

I love mine. But wasn't thrilled at $1250 a seat.

rdane, I believe D Hanson is referring to the price of the authentic Speedster or 993RS seats. Made by Recaro, but with a slightly different rear shell design than the Pole Position seat. The huge price difference would only be tolerated by someone replacing the seats in a Speedster or RS, or someone building an authentic replica IMO.
Actually, any seat in the Porsche catalog is astronomically priced.

cheers,

max

Thanks, Max! The PP version which as you say is a good deal different, lower side bolsters at the bottom towards the peddles for one and a bit wider.

I think they've always been made from Pole Positions (or whatever Recaro was calling their slightly-wider shell seat at the time), but the design of the Recaro seat has been changed since the Speedster ones were made.

If you're restoring an actual Speedster, I guess the premium price might be worth it. Otherwise, you're just buying an older model of (pretty much) the same seat.

Even the new ones are stupidly overpriced, in my opinion. But what are you going to do?

Yeah, I am referring to the actual P-Car OE seats. I just wanted to keep OE style seats in the car. I had Stuttgart Performance and Deparstop check on ordering them for me when I bought mine. The prices were absolutely insane. My memory may be failing a little, but it seems like someone quoted me as high as $ 7k or $ 8k for authentic RS seats. I paid $ 3.2k for my seats with sliders before repainting and having additional inserts made in different colors. They were in as new condition though with perfect leather, now tears and no wrinkles in the inserts.

Does anyone know if there is a weight difference or difference in materials used for the shells? The reason I ask is that the carbon kevlar seat backs seem to be more expensive the the reinforced fiberglass ones sold by Recarro as aftermarket seats.

Yes there is a big difference in weight. This one weighs 1950 grams, that's 4 lbs 5 oz:

The Recarro pole positions are reinforced glass whereas the OE RS seats were apparently made out of carbon kevlar. Not an expert, but this is what I was told. Not sure if that makes a difference in weight or strength, but the prices of the kevlar seats from Pole position are about 2 to 4 times the prices of of the reinforced glass seats even when the glass seats were covered in cloth as opposed to leather.

My seats were shockingly light and you could pick them up with one hand. I should have weighed them before I put them on as I was a bit a curious as to how much they weighed when I picked one up for the first time.

Really? I've only heard of the Speedster seats as being fiberglass.

Not a lot of information on the web. Does anyone know for sure?

i never heard that the material of the Speedster/RS shells were different than the Pole positions,; just that the speedster /RS seats had visible ribs on the back, while the pole positions were smoother.

a picture and response from a 993RS owner here:

I thought I had seen it in Adrian's book on the 964 or perhaps when I tried to order them I was told they were Kevlar Carbon and very expensive. It seems like my painters also said they were carbon kevlar as the had to sand a few areas that had some imperfection during the manufacturing process.

Anyway, the carbon kevlar construction would account for the huge disparity in price if that is truly the case. If they are not carbon kevlar, then the prices would make absolutely no sense. Maybe I will take mine off and weigh them one day. The Pole Positions weigh 7 kgs and a carbon kevlar seat close to the Poles in design weighs 4.5.

Porsche did go through an aweful lot of expense in the 92 Turbo S in weight reduction measures that used this seat (mine is the same harness pattern and hook and latter bottom seat construction) and ended building one of the most expensive cars they ever made costing even more than the 964 Turbo S Flachau???

hallo jack an Friends
I had about 10 sets of RS / Speedster seats over the years , they are all Fiberglass and painted black . For the 993 and Speedster seats the back was painted in color to match the Seatbelts/Doorpulls/ Shifter . They are also Fiberglass . Difference to PP is the Spiderweb in the back ,the size is the same . The Seat you see in the Picture above is a Racer SPA in
carbon .

Hahaha, I just weighed mine and they were about 14 to 15 pounds which would seem about right for fiberglass.

I thought you had the lawyer dude trying to rip you off and than a PPI that was fishy on another P-Car. Wasn't there also a blue car in there that you won on ebay. Maybe I had the wrong person. I am not vouching for these guys, but it would seem if someone could pick those seats up for around $ 800 to $ 1,000 it may be a good deal. Maybe not. Just thought someone might be interested in them so I posted the link.
