reading VIN #s (964/993)

Bruce Anderson states that the 964s with builds up to 62 M 06836, M64.01 for manual transmission cars could be susceptible to the cylinder head leakage problem. When looking at these cars, can I tell from the VIN if the car falls within this range?

M64.01 is the engine type # used in MY '89 - '94 C2/4s

62 M 06836 is an engine serial #. It was used in MY '91 C2/4

The only way to know what chassis has what engine serial # is to look.
