911 Dash Cap

My dash is shot and I was thinking about the possibility of REPLACING it was just a cap. This is a dedicated race car and the light weight appeals to me. I imagine it would be flimsy at best . Anybody erer heard of doing this?? Would it look terrible?

From another thread:

Of all the dash repair solutions I've seen these seem to be the best... http://www.worlduph.com/porsche5.htm (Scroll halfway down)

From a reputable company as well.

I'm trying to find out the feasibility of removing the dash and just using the cap

I've thought about doing this as well. You will need to find some way of attaching the cap to the existing connection points from the original dash pad. You may also want to find a way to stiffen up the cap as well, maybe some reinforcing stiffeners at certain points so it won't flex and shake. I personally haven't examined a cap closely for this application but just mused on it a bit.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I'm planning on removing my cap and covering the whole thing in alcantara-type of stuff. I'm tired of the cap, and I don't have the skill/means/time to go through the correct windshield and dash proper removal
