External T-stat question
It is my understanding the external t-stat is used in conjuntion with an exteranl oil cooler. I do not have an external oil cooler, why do I have a t-stat?

this is an external tstat
what does your's look like?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089230028.jpg

Exactly the same. My oil lines head up around the front wheel well turn a few (ctualy more of a rectangle) and come back.

i now understand!
you have a trombone cooler. it really just lets the oil bleed heat into the atmoshere. i have the same thing, that works decent. i want to upgrade to the radiator type, soon.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089230436.jpg

good stuff, easy upgrade to radiator with fan style cooler
my PO removed the oillines and trombone now i have to hook up new lines and sjit :( |
Sounds like you have the so-called trombone oil cooler where there is a a series of steel loops just in front of your front left wheel. I admit it is not much of an oil cooler, but it is an oil cooler.

Perhaps someone can help me with a question re. replacing the insides of the oil line thermostat on the trombone oil cooler. I'm having some difficulty removing the grooved thermostat valve caps. It was recommended that I use a pipe wrench, but it just chews-up the cap. I will be installing new caps and don't want to damage them. Any suggestions on how I can make this job easier?

pdad, i bet money that putting new ones on will not be near as destructive. just remember antisieze. just keep in mind that i have seen new tstats on the web for $270ish.

external t-stat
vash,
Thanks for the pointer about the antisieze. Bob at Pelican suggested a tool that should work for this job. I'm finishing up a brake job and then hope to work on the t-stats when I replace the heat exchangers. Seems as if one thing leads to another on these old cars. Sure are fun to drive, though! |
