Sportomatic oil tank

Could use advice on my leaking oil tank for my just-purchased '71 T Sporto. Targa. Previous owner apparently "repaired" with epoxy and is now leaking again - badly!

Any ideas for re-coating? Prefer to replace, have been told 2 different stories for replacement; 1) tank is same as manual 911; 2) Sporto is unique tank. Haven't sorted out yet.

I will keep searching.

Will post pics once I solve problem and get car back.

Nice original car bougtht from the estate of a German gentleman who owned same since '80.

Thanks!

Welcome to the board, we need pictures!

Was this the only thing wrong w/car? I vaguely recall you saying there was a shifting issue?

Joe:

Thanks; still not sure about the shifting issue since the tank has been out of the car for a couple of weeks while I've been searching.

I will check out the link you suggested.

Thanks again - hope all is well.

Alex,
One of the major issues with a leaking oil tank is the leaks are probably from rust. That rust flakes off the inside and is mixed with the oil. There is no filter protection on a street 911 to prevent those rust particles from going directly to the bearings and other important parts.

A NEW oil tank is in order.

Best,
Grady

Grady:

Thanks for the advice; Euro. Auto Salvage assured me their's was "clean". I guess I will find out soon.

Looking to forward to posting the car finally; great chat site and people!
