Right Noah...Warren posted that the MSD high vibration blaster coil with MSD part number 8222 has the same number of windings as the factory Bosch coil...if I recall, he did some testing. Warren's posts have never led me astray, so I'm a believer. I plan on buying one as an emergency spare part.

I'd go all the way...MSD6AL, Blaster coil and 8.5mm wires, such as magnecor..

Brad? With all due respect, I've yet to be convinced that the MSD is superior to the Bosch CD unit. On the other hand, it does cost less...

PWD, I cannot disagree with your comments as my installation and comarison of the MSD to stock was definately not scientific

A few months ago, my Bosch CDI quit working so I did some searches to help me decide which ignition unit to use. I finally decided on an MSD (6A - no rev limiter) unit and matching coil. The $$$ that I saved by not buying a rebuilt Bosch went into a set of Magnecor plug wires. The installation was easy as I put male spade connectors on the MSD wires and plugged them into the 6 connector master plug that previously connected to the Bosch CDI. I had to run one wire, the main power wire off the hot lead on the starter in order to get a direct power source from the battery (recommended). The ground wire is supposed to ground to the chassis but I went the "extra mile" and extended the ground to the engine also. I also put a fuse in the main power wire "just in case". To make room for the MSD unit, I moved the rear window defrost relay from a vertical position to a horizontal position just under the MSD. Total installation time was about 2 hours plus planning time. The car runs, starts and idles well with a slight increase in fuel mileage.

PWD , what MSD can do :
my 924 , aka the green bugger, has bad CIS wiring myself, aka the lazy bugger, couldn't be bothered to fix it it has an MSD, and was stalling on idle , because the electrics on my CIS were completely dead.. lazy ass solution : hotwire the cold start injector in the manifold, so it's on all the time... result : car runs, at a stop light, it nearly floods , because i'm dumping fuel in it... without the MSD , my engine floods and stops running so yeah , the MSD definately does something right the green bugger starts way better than in the old days, great cold and hot starts note to self : i will fix the CIS electrics on my green bugger when the black beaut is ridin again...

maybe the MSD isn't necessary for everyone. Carb and MFI guys seem to love it.

i'm MSD install away from awaking my black beast
allready drilled the holes, tomorrow will be sweeetness haven't heard the sound of my 73 since 7 months for the green bugger: it does have a switch , but i never turn it off, the engine dies after 6 secs from fuel starvation when idling without my little workaround, i tapped a wire from the injector to my rear window defogger... i did notice , that i had some more high end power then previously with the modification , i broke 200 for the first time on my 924 but it was scary as hell , given the stock suspension and skinny tires
