T-stat threads stripped

In the process of removing the oil lines from the t-stat the threads came with it. I have installed the thread savers on the t-stat (while I look for a good used one).

Question -- the threads are also stripped on the fittings. How do I go about fixing them? Is there a way to fix the threads? Do I need to cut the fittings off and replace? If so, how do you get the new fittings on?

Thanks

by fittings, i assume you mean the nuts on the oil lines. replacing the lines is the easiest way, but i remember a post where someone used an acid that ate the aluminum away. usually the nut threads are ok, they're just full of aluminum.

Thanks for the info -- I found the old thread, used the acid and it worked like a charm. Now, I just need to figure out where I can take the dirty acid.

Dilute it with lots of water and it's safe. No worse than vinegar. You wash vinegar and oil salad dressing down the drain right?

(I'm not officially endorsing putting acid in the sewer system)
