Or perhaps the subarachnoid space.

i'm not sure but that sounds like it would hurt an awful lot. in fact i'd rather not have anything electronic near my sagittal crest.

Any more pictures of a V1 installs? I am a proud owner of one officially now and can't make the suction cups work worth a damn.

onlycafe 03-23-2008 08:44 PM

what about the sun visor clip? i use the remote display with the visor clip. very hard to see from behind in my targa. if pulled over i can remove and hide the unit and remote, and replace the lighter in the socket in just a few seconds.
most important thing is to not hit the brakes when tagged.....dead giveaway.

On the 73 I have not found a stealth location for my V1, (so on the visor it clips) but did install a remote kill switch under the dash. Sure beats the obvious raising the arm to the visor for turning the thing off - plus its just more handy. I too ran the power line up the A-pillar, so there are no lose wires, suction cup marks, etc - unless they want to bend down into a lowered car and look up the the visor.

Has anyone tried mounting it to a roll bar? Would that foot and a half of distance from the window really make that big of a difference? If anything your rear detection would be better. Then again I have no idea of what makes these things effective...

Just a friend's idea.....http://images3.hiboox.com/images/1308/tqonf9m0.jpg

And this is doable.

Anybody seen this install? Just an idea???? Looks clean, clean, clean!!! I'd probably want a switch that would turn off the alarm display portion,...leaving a nice blank display when the chips are down...

Best,

cdrik915 03-24-2008 05:35 AM

Anybody can have seen this installed caus' doen't exists yet.....but perhaps a special order is coming.
After asking a great member of this forum ,that's doable .
It must be totally invisible caus' here , your car can be kept by the cops if they find a V1 installed in...AND SOLD .

I'll let you know the news about it.

This is in my M3 not my 911. But another idea to make it look OEM. The other switch is for the Laser Diffuser (have to turn it off after they tag you with laser so they can get a "Reading" and realize you are not speeding! :Dhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1206366810.jpg

I think the company stopped making these mirror etched V-1 displays (but that does not mean it could not be done again (I believe they were $200 and you still had to buy the main V-1 unit). Not sure why you need a TV there too, but oh well.

Generally, you want the display near your line of sight down the road, and as far from your eyeball as possible (so you don't need to refocus to see it). Those two criteria suggest a mount near the bas of the windshield or similar. Down low on the center console is not the best idea in terms of ergonomics.

The problem tho is that the windshield base might be easily seen by someone outside the vehicle. You could have a turnoff switch and a small hood to hide it.

Another idea is to remove the seat belt warning light and put the display there. That seems like a good compromise solution to me.

PDACPA 03-24-2008 11:02 AM

I agree with where you say to place it. However, if you are trying to conceal it, ash tray and center console locations make it much easier to conceal. You will hear the alarm sound so you can being your speed decrease and then make a glance to know the location (we are talking fractions of a second).

Also, if you do get stopped, it is easy to slide your hand over and turn off the system and close the ash tray door so "Barney" cannot see it when standing next to your window asking " Do you know how fast you were going?"

(I got pulled over 2 hours after buying my 911 and was driving home and received that question. My response was, "No officer the gauges are all in German and I have not figured out how to read them yet." He let me go.SmileWavy

Make sure the glass is super clean.
Add a tiny bit of moisture to the cups before pressing them onto the glass.
I also find that they won't stick if the glass is cold.
p.s. search Valentine and you'll find another thread about installs.

Dog slobber is the ultimate in getting the cups to stick to the windshield.

I may still get the ticket (haven't yet thankfully) but I won't loose my V1 as well as get the ticket.

TIP:

I keep my old POS $100 radar detector under the seat, if I'm driving somewhere that is illegal for detectors and a cop asked for it; I'll give him the old POS one, not my expensive, cherished V1.

Hope that helps? I'm sure most people have an old detector laying around.

;)

Going through Canada is another story, you don't get it back. Those idiots up there ( the gov. guys not our beer drinking, P-car driving buddies) treat detectors like they treat handguns.. They will rip your car apart and you'll never see it again ( they won't pay for the damages either).

Yup.... see my post above ^^^^ ;)

Rick Lee 03-26-2008 09:35 AM

No, VA no longer confisctaes them. Just just take them for a minute to write down the serial # as evidence and then hand them back to you with a ticket.

i went to high school with a michael oneal in upstate new york, could that be you?

RWebb 03-26-2008 12:43 PM

A small flyout that fit the corner of the windshield would be a great thing to sell...

ROb - I like the variation on the "mugger's wallet" idea. A very similar feeling.
