Sounds like a clutch problem not a gear box problem. Could be clutch is out of adjustment or worn out. Is the clutch slipping (car takes a while to catch up to engine speed) in the higher gears? Check the clutch adjustment.

You could still have an old rubber centred clutch on your car too. That shoudl have exploded like ten years ago but if your car is low mileage and not abused then it could conceivably have lasted this long.

Yeah, what they said. It's 915 not g15. The "G" in G50 is for Getrag I think.

It could also be bad engine or tranny mounts

Some history about car its a mint 83 sc coupe which has more history than England Its had everything done over last 15 years or so so hopefully just adgustment req, I originally owned car 2 years ago and it was fine a bit tight to select first when rolling forward but ok.,
Now i have just bought it back its been used as an every day car in traffic etc.... so a lot of start stop 1st gear in our fantastic traffic system, so how knows All i can tell is power is great no real dragginess to power revs on engine sound right per power delivery its just realy 1st gear where the car judders when moving off (while letting clutch out ) and in reverse the same but it not all the time sometimes its ok. i took her out for a paisting last night on country roads and it was mint not rocket power but shes older than most of the boy racers which seem to stick to my arse when driving.... hopefully this is more helpfull as wondering wether its a diy job or trip to specialist
much apprieciated si
ps excuse any spelling errors just got up ...

I suggest getting Wayne's 101 Project book. It gives a detailed explanation as to adjusting the clutch.

Good luck, David
