A disconcerting noise ...
Seven days is way too long between condensation-burning, carbon-cleaning jaunts. So, on Saturday morning, I decided to take the day off work and take the dust-cover off my car.
After twenty kilometers, I was havin' a ball: a "Fast and the Furious" disciple almost lost control of his modified Nissan Skyline trying to stay with me through a corner! That was after my superego decided it wanted to prove to me -- and the Skyline driver -- just how quick my car was off the line! Then, I jumped onto the freeway, bound for the coast. After a spirited dash to the fast lane, I shifted into fourth and reduced my speed, only to notice that there was a strange fluttering/flapping sound emanating north of the transaxle, that became muted only when the revs rose with more throttle or with one downshift. This fluttering/flapping sound replaced the high gear, low revs, British touring car-esque gear whine, which made me think it was related somehow to my freshly rebuilt gearbox. Then I remembered that I have either a sticking caliper, a bad wheel bearing, or a warped rotor that's causing a grumbling sound at speeds less than 40mph. I thought maybe this strange, disconcerting noise could be related to that so-far-undiagnosed problem ... What do you guys think?
