Just taking a pole of who, what and how much auto insurance should cost these days……
Example car: 2003 Porsche 911 C2 12,000 miles per year Good driving record California What do you think is the norm for full-coverage for this car? I got a quote from my agent, which seem to always work with me but I’ve never shopped around, well at least not lately. Has anyone shopped around lately? Does $2,900.00 seem a little excessive for the year? ![]() BTW: No accidents, No tickets, No immature driver gigs to weigh me down….. ![]() Thanks, -Eli |

And where do you live. There can be huge variations between locations...even if relatively close to each other.

That premium sounds about right. I mean, its not like you're insuring an aging 924. That car's only two years old and retailed for what? $85,000?
Call A.I.S. They'll give you the lowest rate possible.

The insurance company knows you're using that car as a daily driver on occasion at 12,000 miles per year. If you told them 2,500 per year? That premium would drop a bit.
Bottom line? In So Cal, auto insurance companies have a license to steal. I really doubt there's a more expensive place to insure a sports car in the U.S.

Seems like a lot, but then I don't have an '03 C2 or live in Cali
![]() Just for the record, I'm in Minnesota, I'm 56 and have a good driving record, and pay about $800 yearly for full, average coverage (same as we have on my wife's Volvo and my GMC pickup) on my '78 SC. Jerry M '78 SC |

Damn!! Looks like things must be going really well at PP.
Go to progressive online or http://insurance.yahoo.com/a/auto.html and get some online quotes.

Oh so you did get a water-pumping 996. Where are the moderators when we need them?
![]() Just kidding. See if you can do better with an online quote. FWIW, my 2000 Jetta GLX is about $1500/yr in Dallas and I am in my early 30's with no record, so your quote doesn't sound so bad.

You drive an M3 and a Porsche. Buy an '85 Volkswagon for $500 and tell 'em it's your primary driver.

Try AAA. They have some of the best rates in SoCal.
I like Mike's idea....

![]() Eli, Give Mercury a chance to quote. I'm paying a paultry $330 a year on my '81. It's not my daily driver, but there are no restraints on mileage. Max coverage 500K liablility, etc. I'd be interested to see what they quote on a car like yours. I know my agent was glad when I said there was no turbo involved. I'm late 40's no accidents or tickets. YMMV. |

I live in South Georgia which is the land of heat and gnats but the insurance on my '80 SC coupe (full coverage) runs about $240 per 6 months with no mileage limitations. Being over 50 with no points on the license helps!
