Looking for good wrench/garage near Oakland, CA
Looking for good wrench/troubleshooter/garage near Oakland, CA
Have some smog/injection/idle problems with my 82 911SC Targa,....... Would like some recomendations for a good wrench, trouble shooter or garage that can make some adjustments (lean for smog test) to get my car certified for smog and then tune it up to run well. I live in downtown Oakland at Lake Merritt and am close to Alameda. Thanks for any help you can offer,

Here's a list from the GGR Porsche club:
http://www.pca-ggr.org/localmechanics.html The only one I've used is Kahler's (Dublin) for a PPI.

Brian--
I use Valhalla in Lafayette and like them a lot. Small shop and the owner's a little 'crusty', but they do really good work. Also, a buddy of mine uses Porboys in Oakland, just off 880 (you can see it from the freeway). No other experience with them. Hope these help.

The guy that did my PPI is in Alameda on High Street just over the bridge. His dad had the shop for years and now he runs it. Did a lot of P-time in Germany and seems to really know his stuff. Easy to deal with, too.

Try Gavin Autowerks right there at the Oakland Airport. He's very easy to deal with, no drama, no crust, plus he knows what he's doing when it comes to SCs, Carreras, 944s and 914s. He did a tech session for the local PCA in June and he ended up adjusting my idle speed and mixture for free. He looked at other members' cars for free as well. His number is 510.633.0620. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

Now in 993 land ...

Kahler is a super clean and friendly operation. They charge for it though. I'd still bring my car there if I needed help.
I have so far been fine with the Aigel Werkstatt. (My garage, the innovate air / fuel meter and Big O for tires and alignments.) ![]() George |
