orange dash pull switch???

can anyone out there tell me what the orange pull switch located on the right of the steering wheel on a 76 Targa is intended for. On my car it has been disconnected and I must be missing it on the wiring diagrams.

.....and one other quick question is there normally a headlight relay on this vintage car?? Wiring diagrams show a relay but this car does not have a relay in the circuit.

Thanks in advance

The last guy that pulled that switch disconnected it as soon as he got out of the hospital.

Orange knob between the green knob (Rear defogger) and the Cig lighter is the fog light switch. No, there was no factory headlight realy in '76, but you should add some if you update the headlights.

Yikes! Thanks for the picture. Don't recognize that knob.. That is the spot where the intermittant wiper knob is in '74/'75. In '76 they supposedly moved the int wiper knob and used that spot for control for the rare gas heater option. Check your smuggler's box for a heater.

That may just be an aftermarket switch in the empty position.

Hiya Singpilot! Sorta reminds me of the knob on 007's Aston Martin that releases the smoke/oil cloud on his pursuit. Shaken, never stirred, you know.

The gas heater knob did not go there, it was over by the other three in the center, Looks like maybe that yellow wire hanging down might go to it. Youre going to have to look up behind the dash and simply follw the wiring/cable to see where it goes.

Re: Orange knob....Not stock...

Also....don't know how you can say the wiring diagrams show a headlight relay...no Porsche ever had one....but they should, and these can be added later.

According to the '74-'89 911 Authenticity Series by Mark S. Haab...the gas heater knob was moved there for '76. I cannot vouch for that because I have never seen a gas heater in that late a car.

Where would this heater be located...I looked for it in the trunk and found nothing resembling a gas heater just the normal fan box

Thanks

If you did have a gas heater, they are fairly rare, ,hard to get parts for and pretty pricey on the aftermarket...It may have been removed and sold or junked like the A/C on many cars. That would explain a disconnected or replacement switch. Sorry we cannot be of more help.

Hey, looks like this EBay '76 912 has the same knob. You could email them and ask them if it has a gas heater...or what the knob is for.

true story from a Grumman black projects guy.. On LI is/were some real Grumman F-14s.. the public could view them years ago and sit in the cockpit. These were real planes that flew in for the somewhat routine viewing. Anyway some kid is playing with levers and goes thru the very complicated procedure to Eject. one in a million..bingo new rules.

The orange switch on a 76 912 appears to be the fog lights from the wiring diagram--I checked for a gas heater and found no signs of ever existing.....must be an ejection seat I think i'll reasign the switch to the rear fog light or a smoke screen
