I've been working away trying to put on new bushing and Koni sport adjustable shocks and inserts. The only simple part was the read swaybar removal. I guess being 25 years young my car has arthritis of the nuts and bolts...
Anyway I was able to get one of the strut cartridge nuts off, but the other one just won't go. I've tried heat, Liquid wrench, hammer and punch, channel locks, and I've got some banged up knuckles to prove it; it just won't budge. Is there any other trick I've missed? I am doing them on the car as I don't want to take everything apart. This is not only preventing me from driving, but I know I'll miss the next autocross, and it's holding up other projects of mine. i assume channel locks are "pipe wrench"?
thats what i used. looks like you're chewing things up a bit there. I wrapped the strut in a thick rag before applying a pipe wrench. you may have to remove for better access.

Channel locks are different than a pipe wrench, which would probably do the trick.

air chisel on the tabs... it worked for my boge housings. i put billstein cartridges in, and they come with a different cap anyway

Take a small ball peen hammer and gently tap on the nut at intervals all the way around, this will take more than a few taps. The small vibrations throughout the thread range may help loosen the nut. (Old machinist trick I am told-has worked for me on numerous occassions, and use a pipe wrench). I just removed two from a 68 parts car this way.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I got it off!!!!
Heat, hammer, repeat, then while still hot, big pipe wrench. Yes it got chewed up, but the Koni insert has a new one. It looks like it was a bit rusted on the threads. I just got back from testing it out, awesome! Now just to get it lowered and put on some new torsion bar bushing. Maybe I won't even need bigger torsions or sways ![]() The adjustables are great, once on firm the front does not move, I can't wait to try on the track. Thanks for all your help.
