there should be a Targa gruppe
then the CTG owners would have a place to be amongst friends too :D |
What flex? My targa is easily the best handling and most solid-feeling car I've ever owned. It feels as good as any other 911 coupe I've driven... and belieive me, if I felt that it flexed too much or that the handling was in anyway compromised, there is no way I would have bought the car!
However, I wouldn't argue that if you are going to be seriously racing the things, perhaps the increased body flex would become an issue. Fair enough. But what always amazes me is the people (usually non-targa owners) who constantly trot out the "flex" mantra when ever the coupe vs traga issue gets raised. Honestly folks, unless your targa has some serious rust/structural problems, for 95% of us, these cars feel just the same in the "flex department" as the coupes. -MAS |
My stuff is always for sale, big deal. Notice I've owned at one time or another all three styles.
|
I think it is personal prefference and it should be left as that! I have a friend that wouldn't have a coupe. Thats fine I feel the same about targas. That said Either is a 911 and should respected equally! Wouldn't everybody agree. Its the same as color selection. Some love black, others love red, And some love viper green. All a matter of prefference

Targas and Steverino
Formerly Steve Wilkinson-What now, Stephanie Wilkinson?
|
Oh, puhleeze. The last time I was publicly accused of being a pinko ****** skirt-wearer was when I wrote what was perceived as an anti-gun article (which it wasn't).
But then we own a Boxster as well as a 911, and that proves that I must be a girly man, right? Why is it some people have so much trouble making sure they're boys and not girls? Stephan |
Formerly Steve Wilkinson sez:

B) Blinded by their gold chains (from sunlight coming in through the targa opening) C) The wind coming in through the open top keeps flipping their bad toupe's over their eyes. |
Well I happen to own a targa. I have also owned coupes and snrf ones.
I loved each and every one of them. Good luck to you all. David Duffield |
"Targas are an incredibly ugly misinterpretation of the classic 911 shape"
How can this be? Did Porsche hire out the design of the Targa? Isn't the Targa Porsche's own interpretation of what the 911 can be. Isn't that how new cars are conceptualized. Isn't that how Porsche began. Knocking the Targa design is to knock the Porsche heritage. Give it a rest. Maybe Wayne should have a bored Porsche owner pissing match section so this section can get back to Technical issues. I can't express my gratitude to those who helped me on this board enough. These conversations make me feel like a partially rusted 71' Targa that some decided to part out and all that's left is the shell. |

Well, 1388 vies for this taga haters thread... plus a little excursion into intolerance and name calling (no doubt intitiated by some of the teenagers on the board).
"Why can't we all get along?" Here is my proposal to keep the peace: we will ban any photos of tagas on the entire BBS that have roofs on them. Pics of targas with the roof off are allowed but must be in a carefully sequestered area with appropriate warnings for young children. Coup owners agree not to allow their dogs to view any targa photos, and if the slip up they will immediately silence the dogs' howling. Can we all live with that? It seems very "fair and balanced" to me. |
what about a picture of my dog in my targa with the roof leaning on a stand next to the car?
|
I thought again the whole thread was great. I agree that we should all get along. I think its very clear that each of us have our own taste and like what we like. Now that said how many can agree on one type of beer even if its from the same manufacturer. Now that should exclude any teenagers right???
Ben |
OOOOOOh, a beer thread. Now that's one I like. But alas, it'll just turn into a tirade between the Budweiser dubutants and the Coors coalition.

Miller here in wisconsin!! see what a difference already

Stijn; I think you're full of it. I think you are a liar. I think you are an opinionated beast. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is? PM me for my address and send me this wonderful beer so my group can decide for ourselves. I'm thinking eight six-packs, each a different kind. Are you up for the challenge? Do you feel lucky, P*** well, you get the point!
PS We prefer bottles :) |

well , look for the following brands Duvel Leffe Tripple / Leffe Brown Hoegaarden Orval aka our heavy hitters :D they are imported in the US , but obviously K-Mart doesn't have em... you'll need specialty shops for those beers... but they're worth it... don't complain afterwards that you end up addicted , and have to sell your 911 to fund your Belgian Beer Trap :D:D:D |
Well Stephan, next time you write a book, please follow through on any controversial statements you make. How much innocent server space needs to die supporting this thread so that the original question could be asked?
|
The thread has gone into left field, but I personally would like to know who here has read Wilkinson's "Gold Plated Porsche"?
It's got to be the best book about (and not about) our favorite cars that I've ever read! Kudos for the book Steve, Jeers for the Targa opinion! |
I've read it- a very good read that hits close to home. Mine may not be gold-plated yet, but it's getting there. I used it to explain to my wife that I'm not the only one who spends a lot of money on his car with no hope of re-cooping the costs.

Oh **** now we have to find a replacement for our hostess, thanks for tipping us off she was looking for a new job.
