Cool Just drove it home! my first 911...

Well, I just piloted her home and I have to say, I feel like this car was MADE for ME. The way those sport seats hug my torso, the perfect balance of the clutch, the tight body and steering. MAN! I was just begging for all that LA traffic to get the HELL out of the way. Somehow, even though this is my first Porsche, I feel like I have had one for ever. Pretty cool eh? Guess I made the right choice....

and guess what.....thats right, I already have a question for you guys....my high beams are on permenantly whether i flip the toggle bar forwards or back. Is this an easy fix?

anyways....other than that this car is completely stock, purring like a little pussy cat, and ready to cruise.

Thanks again for all your help.....I want to know VERY SOON when I can meet all you guys on a fun run.

Cheers!
-Jeff

Nice car, very clean.

I know exactly what you mean about how you sit in the seats and the feel of having driven it forever.

The high beam thing is a simple fix, Pelican sells the switches and you just have to replace the switch to get it to work again.

Here is the link. Consider this to be the first of many $100s that you will spend maintaining and upgrading the car....and its mostly the small piddly stuff like high beam indicators, window switches etc.

you likely have a fried stalk switch. This is common. The fix is to replace the switch (although sometimes you can fix it...so a search for stalk switch). Then for preventative measures, add headlight relays. the stock electrical setup runs all of the current for the headlights through the tiny stalk switch. Relays fix that problem.

Congrats on the car. Your budget will never be the same...

nice looking Targa ! the sport seats are a definite bonus.

I figured out where you bought it from the pictures in your signature. Lincoln Blvd right?? Very glad Otto gave the car his OK, because that lot is known for having a lot of turds in their lineup.

enjoy in good health !

Jeff-
Welcome - Targas rule!

As to whether you will hurt the top folding it - mixed answers to that. Many people either leave the top at home in its unfolded state or take it with them and store it (unfolded) right behind the front seats. Others fold it and go.

Your SC came standard with an alarm (I think) - look at the inside edge of the driver's door (where the latch mechanism is). If you see a lock cylinder, you have the Porsche-installed alarm. It is operated with a separate key (not your ignition key). Do a search on alarms for more insights on its workings.

Nice car Jeff. Save yourself a big pile of money by staying away from the track.

Jeff, got mine red 911 almost a year ago. you have a very nice car, nice color, and of course, you have a great name. Yeah, is it that place on Lincoln in MDR ar is it Santa Monica. you want to know what is really sick, you always turn around and look at it twice as you walk away after you park her. We should meet and go for a drive. good luck,

Jeff

Jeff, nice car. The high beam switch is easy and a great opportunity for you to get started messing with your car. Pelican sells the switch and a book written by one of Pelicans owners called 101 Projects. Get both on your first order.
Then you can experience the "while you are in there" curse. To fix the high beam switch you have to take off the steering wheel. There are a variety of steering wheels you can get to replace the stock one.

Welcome to the Board. Keep your eye out for a Malibu Canyon run, and come meet the rest of the local Pelicans!

On the high beams...the problem is your stalk switch. It's a simple, but somewhat tedious fix. The part is about $100 from our host. First, remove the horn pad. Then, remove the nut that holds the steering wheel in place (do NOT use the wheel's locking mechanism to hold the wheel while you're removing the nut). Before removing the wheel, mark its position in relation to the steering shaft. Remove the wheel. There are two plastic "clamshell" pieces covering the steering column. Remove those. The switch is on the left, and if I recall correctly it's held in place by two or four screws. Remove those. Now the fun begins....there are a bunch of wires that run from the stalk switch to the back of the headlight switch. Carefully replace those one-by-one. It takes some time, so fight the temptation to pull them all at once. Button it all up by reversing the instructions above. Torque the steering wheel nut to specs (not sure what the correct torque is, but Wayne's book will have it, or search the board).

On the alarm....get a good aftermarket alarm AND use a club. The club is only a deterrent...if they want your car, they'll get it. The club might get them to go on to the next one, however.

I second the suggestion to get Wayne's 101 Projects book. It's well-written, and VERY helpful. If you're into DIY, buy the Bentley manual as well (they show up on eBay from time-to-time).

There are two schools of thought on folding Targa tops. One is that folding them puts little lines in aged vinyl. That's what's happened to mine, and I don't care. The other school is to keep it stretched. Unfortunately, this means you have to put it behind the seat (making it vulnerable to thieves when you park) or leave it behind. I choose to fold mine so I can put it in the trunk.

Congrats on the purchase! Nice looking car.

Congrats!
I know that first drive feeling all to well. Beautiful Targa!!!
Definetly get Waynes 101, and I fold and stow my top everday. When it becomes cracked or damaged I will just recover.
Enjoy
