question: Diff between turbo and none-turbo on wheel/hub/arm

Whatever it is, I am not sure what to call it.
My car is not a turbo. It's the body-conversion. Right now I have the turbo wheels (16 x 7/9) with 1" F and 2" rear adapters. The only way for me to get rid of these adapters is to move the hub outward proximately 1" up front and 2" in the rear. Anyone know which part(s) involved in this task, if it's possible? Possible meaning reasonable work/parts required. I know everything is possible with money/labor.
Thanks much.

H have both a real turbo and 911T converted to a wide body like yours. Looking at the two, I don't think ther is a cost effective way to do this.

The turbo has different control arms ($1-2K each). The turbo control arms have different pickup points on the tub, which would have to be welded on. The turbo control arms also have different mounting for the brakes. And when you are done, the real turbo still has a 1" spacer between the hub and the wheel, both front and rear.

The real way to "fix" this "problem" is to get wheels with proper backspacing, but you would probably need custom wheels. I've seen the other threads on the evils of spacers and adapters, and what you are thinking about seems like an expensive fix to a situation with little hard evidence to support that there is a real problem.

rlh,
thanks for response. I thought so but I just take a chance. It should not be easy and cheap.
Looking at my car setup, a custom wheel has to have at least -35mm offset (on the rear), because currently the rear adapter is 2"=50mm. That is -50mm offset. The turbo Fuch 16x7 has +15mm offset. The sum of those 2 things = -35mm offset.
Also, on the current setup, the Fuch is a little inward to the wide body fender lips; therefore to have it perfect, the wheel should come outward maybe around 1/2", that is around 15mm? Total I should have between -45mm to -50mm offset. hehe that is a weird wheel offset I have ever heard of.

No, the 7x16 Fuchs all have a +23.3mm o/s

It is easy and fairly inexpensive to increase the front hub o/s, just install 930 calipers and late('81 up) rotors and hubs. You get an increased o/s of of ~1" on each side.

As rlh930 mentioned, the back is much more difficult and expensive.

Usually in situations like this you use a wider wheel which has the additional benefit if not needing the extreme o/s that you are proposing.

the front fenders are comfortable w/ 9" wide and the rear 11" wide. Of course you can use even larger but then the fit and o/s become more critical.

Bill,
"The turbo Fuch 16x7 has +15mm offset"
It's a typo. I meant the rear has 15mm. 16x9 instead of 16x7

Ok, let me rephrase see if I got it right. To get rid of using wheel adapters,

Front: Replace with 930 (turbo) brake calipers, brake rotors, and wheel-hubs. For wheels, I don't need to wide up front, so probably between 7" to 8" is fine.

By reading your explanation, the hub on turbo 930 is 1" wider than the normal carrera hub?

Rear: dificult and expensive, so stay with adapter. But since the front brake is upgraded, rear (calibers, rotors) should be upgraded too, otherwise braking won't be balance?

I will check on pricing. Don't think it's inexpensive but let's see.

Thanks

if you use 930 calipers and rotors on the front you do need matching 930 calipers and rotors in the back as well as a 23mm m/c.

in the back you want ~160mm of front space to match the 930 fender lips. Your 16x9 +15mmET w/ 2" spacer has ~159mm of front space.

so a 9" wheel w/o spacers will need an o/s of -36mm, a 10" wheel w/o spacers will need an o/s of -26.7mm and an 11" wheel w/o spacers will need an o/s of -13mm

all of these will have the same net front space which is the main concern here.
