Centered pair exhaust pics? 74 RS style

I've tried searching, to no avail.

Does anyone have any pics of a mid year 911 with light weight glass rear bumpers with a center pair of exhaust pipes, like on the 997 Cup cars, and to a lesser extent, the 935s, even though those are tilted downwards?

Like these:

The overall guiding principle is 74 RS Carrera, without the IROC/turbo style flares. That may happen one day--distant future.

A new, semi-custom exhaust is necessary, and since we have to do it, we're toying with the idea of the pair of pipes centered. More RS correct would be spaced out, and RSR would be even wider, but they'll be too loud that way. I'm not trying to build a clone, just something in the ballpark. Any reference pics would be great.

I also know that there were Roth Sports cars built this way; again, search yielded no results.

This is a shot of our '75 Carrera RS (look). I made 2 types of center style mufflers. I'm including a picture of one of them.

This is a shot of the muffler. The white lines show the original pipe layout. I also made some slip in baffles for street use.

That is really nice - would be good with some SSIs, so that you could still have heat.

Pieter,
Contact Ben Mcfarland of M&K exhaust. he'd make some, I bet. He has flexibility, I believe in location of the outlets. I've worked with him to specify my outlets custom to my application.

Thanks guys. Those are helpful. I remember seeing that NJ car before. I'd keep the pipes very simple; no chrome tips, but those look good.

Bump too for more pics!

Doug, Ben is the one doing it. The new exhaust will be a replacement of another exhaust he built, which sounds spectacular. I can't wait to see and hear the new one. Absolutely first rate muffler, and outstanding service.

Are you going to the POC Tribute? I need to buy you that beer! I'll be there, working during the race.

Smile Modified muffler

A friend of mine modified the stock on my 75. Also plugged up the original side pipe. I heard its a factory modification. Sounds great, low but not too loud.

Please be sure to update us on this. Are you going to cut the rear valence or exit the pies below the factory valence?

MB Dual Center Muffler

Ben,

Thanks. I'll be anxious to see / hear your design. I love the look and sound of the GT3 exhaust. While I appreciate a 2.4T will never quite sound like a GT3 I think there is something about having the pipes close together in the center that will give any flat six a nice harmony.

Don
