fabspeed muffler vs. Dansk vs. all others

Hey all

I've searched on this, but not too many comments out there on the fabspeed SS muffler for a 3.2. The muffler and tips look nice, sound nice, good info and movies on their site, etc. etc.

I've read people saying "doesn't dyno well"... Is there something wrong with it?

I am looking to save some weight, get nice sound, a little muffler jewelry, and perhaps increase throttle response. I have a SteveW chip, fabspeed bypass coming from another pelican, and was considering a fabspeed dual out with cap.

Anyone have any feedback, or info as to why you may not have gone that route (and Dansk instead)?

Thanks!

I have the Dansk with euro pre-muffler on an '84. It is louder than stock, but still pleasant in the cab. Everyone says it has a nice deeper sound on the outside. The Fabspeed is louder than the Dansk at higher revs. It actually is not much louder than stock at idle and below say 2,500 rpm. I believe it is louder in the cab at higher revs as well. I know a fellow Pelican that has had both on his car, so I will try to get him to chime in.

In the looks department, the Dansk has larger diameter pipes, cut at a slight angle. The Fabspeed has a more up to date look, with kinda oval look to the pipes. My one complaint with Dansk is that the pipes do not mount up at an even height, unless you are very lucky. Others that I have spoken with say the way to even them out is to loosen the motor mounts and adjust the whole motor and exhaust. Seems like a lot of work, but I will likely try this at some point in the future, unless someone else has a better plan. They also stick out further than I would like, but they still look good.

I have a Fabspeed and SSIs on my 3.4-liter, twin-plug, S-cam, PMOed SC engine, which dynos at the equivalent of 290 flywheel hp. I doubt it's possible to get more with my setup, so I hardly think the Fabspeed is choking anything down.

Agreed...Fabiani seems pretty proud of the fact that they run as unrestricted as possible without making hideous noise. I have one of his premufflers that has been bulletproof, and have a single in dual out on order.

Porsche Crest

I've heard bad things about those little 'stinger' glasspacks, but it seems a lot of guys run them anyway.
Other than noise, aren't they good for airflow?

I've got a 2 in 1 out SS Dansk '74 style muffler bolted to SSI heat exchangers. The tip comes out perfectly right in the middle of the hole.

I've tried stock, dansk and Fabspeed. Don't know about dyno figures, but for sound and support the Fabspeed wins hands down. I have the single in / dual out setup and if you have ever heard a GT3 RSR, thats what it sounds like under acceleration with a nice rumble at idle!

I bought this muffler with 911 tips before I decided to take on a 911-964 conversion. I called Joe at Fabspeed and he offered to swap out the tips, since Fabspeed's muffler is the same for 3.0, 3.2 and 3.6 but with different tips and inlet pipe. This muffler is all about QUALITY. Great welds and all stainless!

David - as a new fabspeed muffler owner can you report in on your experience? I am trying to decide between GHL, B&B, and Fabspeed.

Hi Triwave

Will do, I was waiting for my cat bypass to come, which has just landed I'm hoping to install soon. I will immediatly comment that the fabspeed seems rock solid, like it could have been made by Porsche... somewhat heavy too. I had a BORLA on an earlier car that was quite light, but very cheaply made. This is definitely first class.

triwave: I have a full B&B system: headers and 2 in / 1 out. I've been told that B& B mufflers are not the best but really don't have any complaints. Sound is throaty but not overpowering with the 1 out.
