Advice on 993 C-4 Cab vs mid 80's targa

Gentlemen........er, I mean Pelicans,

I have a 95 C-4 Cab with very low miles and great condition. After having a friend buy a 76 911 and pull the engine, get it running, and learn what he did with an investment of under $ 5,000, and spending a fair amount of time here the last few months, I have an idea I would like to run by you guys.
I don't have a particular love for my current P-car except that it is in great shape. But the color is so-so to me, gray on gray (don't know the Porsche color), and I hate the plastic rear window. Driving the car is awesome, and it has been problem free so far.
I figure it's worth $ 40k plus.
After seeing some of the cars for sale here....and the prices, I figure I could sell my 993, find a nice slate blue (again forget the p-name) 86ish Targa with tan interior (or one with poor interior and replace with new leather (cost prohibitive ??) with a whale-tail (sorry, I like 'em: > ))) and have $15 to 20k towards another good cow pony and trailer.
Obviously I'm more into horses (the kind with legs) than sportscars for the time being, but don't like the idea of not having a good reason to frequent this board !!!!
As I type, the answer becomes clear, but would like some feedback from the "board of directors" here. Any holes in my plan ?
You guys are really a hoot. Thanks for the daily entertainment.

Do it! And enjoy the board an discover how a real Porsche feels. I have a 993 targa and a 996 GT3 and like you say they drive great but nothing to take the sleep away. But my 74 carrera is other story.

do it tim! especially if you drive a mid 80s car and like it. I love the driver involvement you get with these cars, I think the later cars lose some of that.
