will this shroud fit?

I need a new engine shroud. Will this fit a 72 with Webers?

Thanks,

That is an MFI shroud, with some extra holes where the pump goes, and notches for the injector hardware at each inlet port. You could patch it to work I am sure (don't want air exiting thru all those extra spots, right?).

BUT, as it is a RARE 911E shroud, perhaps someone will swap it for a carb shroud from a T or an earlier car...

The one GOOD thing this one has that the earlier shrouds are missing is that (gray) extra duct to the oil cooler. That's a good thing to have, esp if the engine mounted cooler is your only cooler...

All the 72 shrouds had the MFI cutouts. You really don't get air loss through them even with carbs.

No that is a "T" shroud. The "E" was green and the "S" was red.

Jim,

I agree with both Kurt V and Bill.
It would be best to use a non-MFI fan shroud. It is very desirable to have the duct to the cooler but you will need an additional plastic part at the cooler, not shown in your image.

This is a MFI 2.4 911T for ’72 to 911T ’73 ½. A 911E is green and 911S is red.

Best,
Grady

while on the subject,

how does it work with them CF shrouds you can buy
those don't seem to have the extra duct?
does this mean they're no-go for MFI engines?

Thanks all.

So, I'd conclude that this MFI shoud could be used with Webers and painted red to match my valve covers.

But, a carb shroud from 71T or earlier would be best?

Is that the concensus here?

Maybe somebody would like to prepare a taxonomic guide to engine shrouds?

A smaller, hip-pocket field guide would be nice too....

BTW, there are some pics on a recent thread -- maybe on Early 911 forum.

I'm running Webers with an S shroud. I used the door end plugs (rubber/plastic) to plug the unused injector access holes. Works fine.

Does such a book exist already ? If so I have not laid eyes on it.

Harry Pellows book was great for 356/912 engine parts and I can't tell you how many times I have referenced those black and white pics to tell what engine part I was holding in my hands.

I know for 911's Bruce A's book has some pics in it and I am guessing Waynes engine book has more. But does any book have detailed pics of engine part differences ?

This is a problem with chassis and body parts also. In fact in another post there was some confusion on what a Early Sport seat was or wasn't.

This didn't use to be as big a concern but as people buy early cars that have been thru many owners and aquired lots of different parts it would be nice to have a decent reference to help in backdating.
