idle problems (newbie question)

i noticed that when accelerating hard w/ the A/C turned on, the RPM dips down really low when i don't upshift fast enough, somtimes the oel light lights up & goes off & idles normally, sometimes the engine stalls. any suggestions?

My car doesn't idle smooth unless I set it at 1100 rpm. The factory spec was 950, but my mechanic told me 1100 is what these cars operate best at.

Bench Guy,
Try to state the year of your car in your posts so it's easier for people to reply.
