Engine sound pad material Question?
Hello, I just purchased an engine sound pad mail order. It is made out of a spongy foam material about 3/4 inch thick. Anybody familiar with this ? Is it heat resistant? I'm worried that the engine heat will disintegrate the material. I am new to 911 ownership and have been relying alot on the vast knowledge and information of this site, Thanks in advance, Johnny O

I used 3/4 inch stuff that airplanes use. It is heat resitant and it was about 10 bucks at my local aircraft parts store.

do you mean will it impede heat transfer?
or that it will stand up to the heat and not break down for many years? for the factory pds, the answer is yes to both. for aftermarket - who knows? did you buy it from one of the larger sources? the stock setup uses material on the pass. side of the firewall to insulate and attenuate noise as well Ben - how much did your aricraft-sourced pad weigh? |

I used 3/4" foam but it has a mylar cover on the engine side. If it eventually shreds, it'll be contained inside the mylar sheet. Source is JCWhitney or other places.

Ben,
Could you elaborate on the material you used, is there a brand name for it? Or post a picture. I just sent a mailorder pad back because it was thinner than the one I already have, especially the coating. My existing pad has a reasonably thick rubbery coating but it has gotten brittle from heat.

I just installed the replacement pad the Pelican carries and it was easy to install (used 3M Weatherstriping Glue) and seems like it will last awhile, although I may place a sheet of DynaMat over it, just to be safe... My engine was dropped, so I had plenty of room.
