Momo hub adapter

Hi,

My Momo steering wheel exhibits some wobbling so I started investigating. I removed the six allen screws and removed the steering wheel. I can move the Momo hub adapter toward me by about 10 mm but it is stuck there. How can I remove this hub adapter? Can I use a gear puller without breaking anything?

Thanks,

Alain

I read somewhere on Pelican that it's a 27mm, but I'm not sure. Maybe it needs to be tightened all the way down?

I use a 1-1/16 inch SAE socket and it works fine. Just removed and replaced my wheels a number of times lately, so i'm sure it's 1-1/16 = 27mm.

The hub should not be loose in an axial manner. Check the nut tightness like the other guys said.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the comments. It happened that the PO pinched the horn switch ground wire under the 27 mm nut holding the hub adapter. With vibrations, the copper wire under the nut made the nut at little loose.

Of course, a ground wire under the nut holding the hub adapter is probably not the best thing. I didn't really see any particular place to install properly the ground wire. I simply soldered it to the hub adapter. I then tightened the 27 mm nut and now my steering wheel is no longer wobbling.

What I still don't know is how to remove the hub adapter. I really couldn't remove it by hand. It's not critical now since my wobbling steering wheel problem is history but, for my own 911 culture, I certainly would like to know how to remove the hub adapter.

Thanks again,

Alain

once you loosen the 27mm nut and remove it, the adapter will just pull off.

You sometime have to give it a good yank. Because of the splines, be sure to pull it straight off and you should have no problem.

Occasionally, a nice whack with a mallet from the side whilst pulling is the trick...

Or "rocking" it fore and aft, kinda like when you're stuck in the snow works well.

When you put it back on, some anti-sieze will make it easier next time.
