Weird hesitation...your thoughts?

Hi all,

I have a stock 79 3.0 CIS motor in my 72. Ignition system is stock, including Permatune. Right now, when the car is warmed up, if I take it above 4-5k, the engine "cuts out" like the rev limiter is stalling it or something. It appears to be ok when the motor is stone cold...this only happens when up to temp. My thoughts were to get a tune up kit (cap, rotor, etc...) and see if that fixed it. Otherwise, I was thinking maybe an MSD ignition box? Anything else I should look at?

Thanks,

mto

It might work better if the Permatune was relocated to the tunnel cover between the rear footwells. Permatunes don't like heat, or so I hear about the aluminum-finish models ... and that has been confirmed on tests I did on an intermittent 3-pin model that gave considerable trouble at high temps on one 'Big Ride' ... yet Permatune returned it from tests marked 'NTF' ... No Trouble Found!'

A bad set of plugs or ignition wires will make it cut out too.
