Well since I occasionally track the car, and it's not my daily driver......I may listen to whispers in my head....took the foil helmet off last month, BTW....and do the early long hood and front fender back date that I have been longing for.

As for the exhaust.....the mufflers are supertrapps that cross in the middle with twin cats in the middle so that it is smog legal. They are sport models and are required to pass the visual inspection. Caps on the trapps can be pulled and the sound is very throaty. I loose significant seat of the pants power on the lower end but the top end seems to like it.

We have 92dbA limits on some tracks, and even lower at Laguna...90...so removing 2 discs will keep under that limit....anymore and the engine seems to be stifled.

It has a custom "no bad days" chip and headers on the current configuration....I figure with a good running 3.6 how much MORE do you need. It stays with a friend's 3.0 turbo and I pulled a 04 'Vette on the freeway, exited the same ramp and then lost him on the pass when we hit the twiisties this weekend.

No heat as it rarely sees the cold. Then I put the top up and wear a jacket.....I DO miss a defroster on foggy days though.

jmz 08-09-2004 07:24 AM

those "whispers" are saying early, longhood Speedster.

MFAFF 08-09-2004 08:11 AM

Crossed supertraps, not seen that installation before.
Very cool.

Red stripes on the bumpers, Carrera down the side and duck tail....long nose, the only Carrera RS convertible....why not?

dickster 08-09-2004 08:22 AM

red "full size" carrera stripe.

but i have to admit (no offense) i like it with the ducktail, and without the supertrapps - less is more!:D

but hey, it aint my car. ;)

so I'm curious now. Are *any* mods allowed in your world? Or is it "factory or the highway"?

Whoa! POS? Now there is a blanket staments without much thought. No offence , but you might want rethink that stament. Some brands, such as FORD and Chevy are made for customers with OTHER OPINIONS. Can you trully call the F-150 trucks POS? Can you trully call the Mustang GT a POS? What about the new Ford GT?

If you think about it, look at some Porsche race history and I bet you that you wont find a single 911 un"mess"ed with from the way it came out of the factory. At least not the ones that won races. (excluding cup races)

Cheers:)

There's a difference between the multitude of 911's out there, we're playing (ruining?) with garden variety SC's and Carreras. Not a slam, but an SC or Carrera, including a 1986 vintage isn't exactly in the same league as say, an early RS or RSR - of which most can agree - don't futz with.

Stock, at best is a compromise. Except of course, the aforementioned RS and RSR and whatnot...

In that case, I think the original blue stripe with blue wheels would look better than the red. But even better than that (just my opinion still, don't get upset) might be navy blue stripe and wheels.

I knew I'd end up paying for that.

It was a poor choice of words but what I really meant was taking an older American car, such as a Ford or Chevy, that happened to be in bad shape (POS) and having fun with mods on it. Assuming it's not a collectable car, I'm all for it.

bigrubberjeep 08-10-2004 10:30 AM

No worries Porschenut. Unfortunetly I react sometimes to quick. I should have read your post a few times, then it would have dawned onme tha youmight have been reffering to "Older" or car that "need" attention

Not necessarily. I'm perfectly happy with mods that fix things that were already broken (such as upgrading the tensioners on older cars, or weak head studs).

I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer these cars to remain as original as possible. I know they can be made faster, or better (however you want to define that). But to change the specs or the appearance in any significant way to me just ruins the car. I take special pride in my '86 because it's bone stock. I could make it faster or upgrade the suspension but it would make me feel as though something important had been lost.

BTW, I don't use q-tips and I don't concours the car. I get my jollies out of preserving its original character. And if I ever decide to sell it, it will be worth more to a collector than an "improved" car.:)

TRUE on the value but....... your probably more likely to find another person that wants to buy an Un-modified car so they can do their OWN mods, over an actual collector since a basic 86 Carrera is not exacly concidered a Collector car. Then again you may have some "odd" model we don't know about.

Zois, I like the original blue carrera with blue fuchs bright petals and a ducktail best. Sorry, I know you're bored with it.

Actually, RMR (rocky mountain region) PCA is quite cool. Lots of track days.

Dave, have you done any DEs yet? It's the only way to understand what your porsche can really do, IMO.

I'm not sure how collectible an SC or Carrera 3.2 is. Most of us who make a few changes are still loathe to do things that aren't reversible, like welding to the body or drilling holes.

Joe Bob 08-10-2004 04:02 PM

Not like the blue and the duck can't come back...they are sitting in the garage....next month it wil be pink and magenta......

The hard parts to change back is the body, engine and suspension mods....A/C was an add on for this car and will NEVER be re-installed.

nostatic 08-10-2004 05:18 PM

no argument about the bone stock car being worth more when you go to sell it. BUT, if you take your car on the track, you quickly learn the deficiencies of the stock setup. And if you aren't going to sell, then it doesn't matter what the resale value is :D

Different strokes. But the more and harder I drive my car, the less I want it to stay as it came from the factory. Thursday the roll bar goes in and the rear seats and AC comes out.

Nope, my '86 is common and I know it's not a collectible yet. Maybe it won't be for another 15 or 20 years. And who knows, maybe by then I'll change my mind and pimp it out!:D

I was all set for the DE at 2nd Creek in July, but I had to back out at the last minute. My next opportunity won't be until September.
