fan shroud question

I need a new fan/engine shroud for my 1972 with Webers. Will this fit? If not, what color should I look for, red, black, yellow or green?

Thanks,

I think the greens were from the mid-year (74-77) 2.7 liter cars. However, I have no idea about the differences (if any) in the shroud sizes. My 77 has the standard green shroud.

Since this looks like a mid-year shroud, you could check the parts numbers for your year and see if the 74-77s are the same.

You need to decide if you want one that is x color fiberglass or has been painted x color. They will look different.

Jim,

Talk to rs911t. He is converting his '72T 2.8S with Webers back to MFI this winter and will have some very appropriate stuff.

Best,
Grady

Jim,

It looks like that shroud is from a 2.7 CIS based on the shape of the intake holes. It should fit your car with webers. Make sure you have the extra section of shroud that extends over the engine oil cooler. It will be gray in color and is not pictured above.

btw, green shouds could be from a mid year 2.7 or an early 911E. The E shrouds will have different intake patterns for the MFI injectors.

I make all the shrouds new in all colors and amber.
roughly,
65-68 911 carbs black
67S and up red carbs, mfi, cis
69E-73 mfi green
early t's black? then by 69with mfi yellow
Amber for racing application
shroud style
65-68 no ducting to oil cooler, internal vanes riveted to shroud

69-73 ducting to oil cooler riveted on outside

74 and up ducting molded to oil cooler, seperate bolt on hood for oil cooler, sheet metal riveted under duct for air direction

----- it's the only green model.

" It should fit your car with webers."
--------- mine fit w/PMO intakes. I wouldn't want the holes any tighter.

" Make sure you have the extra section of shroud that extends over the engine oil cooler."
------ absolutely

"It will be gray in color and is not pictured above. "
------ I acrylic urethaned mine red.. looks very different than stock red.

"btw, green shouds could be from a mid year 2.7 "
----- my stock color was green.

I dont know what this means: " Make sure you have the extra section of shroud that extends over the engine oil cooler."

Is not this the section that is rivited on top, in either a grey or molded into the shroud in the same color?

Or are talking about the block off plates that run perpendicular to the shroud on either side of the fan?

Jim,

There is an additional section that extends out to the oil cooler. In the posted picture the left hand side of the shroud (4-6 bank) there is a raised molded section that terminates about 1.5 inches from the back edge of the shroud. Under neath this area is a black metal plate riveted in place that contacts the back edge of the engine oil cooler. There is a gray section that will overlap the raised section and extend to the front side of the engine oil cooler, thus forcing air down through the cooler. this section was riveted to older shrouds (pre-72?)and became a bolt on after 72 IIRC.
