Which CV bolts for sure?
Is there any way to tell for sure which CV bolts are _supposesd_ to be on my 1973.5 911?
Since I am owner #6, I'm not sure I can trust the ones on there. PET and the Pelican catalog don't help. They are M10 and take an 8mm Allen - but should they be 48 mm long or 55 mm long? Any thoughts? |

Why don't you measure the CV, flange and washer thickness? I don't know if it is the case for CV bolts but in my experience, Porsche tends to use weird length bolts. For example. M6x12 instead of the commonly available 6x10 or 6x15 size.
1974's used M10x48mm CV bolts so I expect that is what your's uses. -Chris

I believe the 901 box cars all used the shorter bolts?

Some data points:
73.5 car has a 915 box ( starting in model year '72)...not 901 box *typically*...you'll see 10mm bolts for turbos..... ---Wil

Yeah, I would have expected M8 screws. Mine were M8x45.

No, guys! Every 915 from '72 models thru mid-75 models used M10 x 48 mm bolts!!!
Unless the axles have been changed to '69 thru '71 versions with thicker CV's ... M10 x 50 mm DIN 12.9 bolts work just fine on early 915s! Be sure to get new Schnorr washers, too!

Thx Warren -- let me make sure I got this right... Even tho the PET shows both 48 and 55 mm long bolts for 1973, I can use the 48mm bolts? (I don't see the 50 mm on Pelican).
Don't worry, I am getting new washers and lock plates both. And, no, I have not changed to the older CV joints - these are the ones on the car when I bought it from owner #5. |

Randy, I have two bags of 10x48mm bolts sitting right here (16 total). Same price as Pelican and I'll pay for the shipping. OEM in original porsche bag, 900.067.128.01. PM me if interested, I bought these to do mine but they didn't arrive in time.

Randy,
There is a confusion factor using PET, and a problem, IMHO!!! Not all of the diagrams accurately depict, or listed parts specifically apply to the year car you select! The only CV bolt listed in the '72 - '73 paper parts catalog is the pn John gave ... M10 x 48 mm bolt!

John, Sorry - I already ordered before I checked this thread. If Pelican tells me they are delayed, I'll cancel that and give you a call. |

Two-hole c-shaped washer plates used in conjunction with the Schnorr lock washers to secure the CV joint screws are reusable and do not need to be replaced unless badly corroded or damaged. Jim
