Whats the strangest thing you've seen in a Porsche?
I was driving up Hazeltine today about noon. While stopped at a light I looked to my right as a car pulled up next to me. It was a very nice looking 911. There was a VERY large man driving it. He, looked as though he was too large for the car or at least to large to drive it comfortably. But what really got my attention was the passenger seat and the rear seats were full up to the window sill with sod. Yep SOD, rolled grass with dirt attached. Sure wished I had my camera with me to document the sight. Although I wouldn't have wanted to piss off the very large man driving it. Whats the strangest thing you've ever seen in a Porsche??

OK, naughty high speed fun aside...
... I'm REALLY jealous of that tach right now - I wanna 10k one (especially if the engine goes to 8k!)! Well, except it isn't early style tach, but you know what I mean. What are the specs of such a car (I'm not trying to figure out who did it, just what it takes to run a car to those revs in top gear!).

Strangest thing? I opened the garage one morning to find a steamer sitting on the drivers seat.
Yes, a big turd. Apperantly a cat got trapped in the garage overnight and decided to express its general dissatisfaction. Can you say leather cleaner?

My wife takes the 911 to the feed store sometimes to pick up bags of feed and stuff for her chickens and ducks when I've got the jeep at work. She used to get strange looks from everyone else in their pick ups. Now they just think she's eccentric. heh..
But SOD...oh...I think that's got us beat. |

Well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. When I was framing houses, I could fit all of my tools in my '69 corvette. Carried firewood in that car once.
A cousin used to use a 914 when he was painting houses. His little airless sprayer would fit perfectly in the front trunk with no room to spare. Stayed put no matter how hard he took a corner. |

Ok, I can see rotating the tach on stock tach, and this is a tach that's already got the numbers where the numbers are already where you want them. So why rotate the other guages? Or is that some sort of illusion?
I have seen 911s with all of the guages rotated. No idea why. Quote:

My dad had a VW Bug (that I always wished was a 911), he went out to the brick factory one Saturday morning and picked up a few hundred bricks for a patio. Piled them on the seats, floors and under the hood

There is a datalink that runs from the dasboard directly into the driver's helmet. The helmet, in turn, has several LVDTs (Linear Variable Displacement Transducers) mounted inside it which send signals to the receiver mounted in the dash. The receiver converts the data from the LVDTs to the Dashboard-Gage Controller (DGC) and rotates them to a specific angle. The idea behind this is that, as the driver approaches a curve in the road, his head starts to twist to the side, in anticipation of the oncoming G-Forces. The more you tilt your head, the more the gages rotate The gages end up turning at the same angle as the driver's head, allowing them to be accurately read from any speed or attitude. As you can see by this picture, the driver is anticipating a slight turn to the right. Then again, it may just be an illusion...what do I know? Just kidding! ![]() The PO of my 911 had turned the Speedometer and the Tach sideways. He said it was for quick glancing at them while driving/racing...something about seeing the needles pointing straight up, or something like that. All I know is that its a pain if your NOT driving like that. I mean...when I want to make a right turn, my "Up" signal flashes, and for a Left, the "Down" signal. Takes some getting used to...someday I'll get in there and turn them back the way they're supposed to be. Randy

The only one I have turned is the speedometer. If I turn straight up, then the 60-90mph area is blocked by the steering wheel; and I can't see it.
All of my others are normal though. |

There was a guy in Bay Ridge Brooklyn who's car I saw every once and awhile when I was in the area. It was a beat up white SC or Carrera. One time I saw it parked in front of his house with lumber sticking up through the top. He used it like a pickup truck.

Sarah, Guys. I once saw a large dog driving a 911. Well actually it turned out to be a dog on the passenger seat of a left hand drive car (we are right hand drive like in the UK), but with the small steering wheel and the dog with it's face at the window it sure looked funny. Bill.

Arnold Schwarznegger was seen driving a 89 guards red speedster on the way to the studios ,with a huge cigar sticking out of his mouth. Trouble was he is so big that his head was sticking out above the windshield- quite comical!
