Ignorant question, but I go to ask!
Why did the 3.0 engine have more power then the 3.2 engine
Please break it down for me in basic terms. I don't understand why with so many mods for the 3.2 it basicly only puts out about 260HP if your lucky, yet the 3.0 RSR engine(or RS, im not sure) puts out about 240 stock? |
Specifically what engines are you comparing?
A stock 3.2 is rated at 215. Stock 3.0 190. |
You're comparing a 3.0 RSR race engine with a stock production 3.2 w/ full emissions equipment. Of course the race engine would put out more hp.

Honestly guys, I don't know what I am talking about. I read it in some Porsche book that a RSR 3.0 motor put out over 240HP I just cant recal where. What Noah said makes sence though. High RPM.

Compression, Cams, lightweight/balanced/hardened (exotic material) hardware capable of much higher rpms, larger....valves/manifold(s), enhanced fuel delivery.........

A 180-hp factory SC motor will last 200,000 miles or so.
A 3.0 race motor putting out 240 hp would have a between-rebuild lifespan measured in hours. If you had one, you'd need a tolerance for its difficulty idling, a budget for the regular rebuilds, and a map with the gas stations in your area that sold 100-octane gas. You can make a great race motor out of a 3.2, as well. But if longevity and useability are important to you, you don't simply go for the maximum peak horsepower. |
Apples to oranges, but ponder me this:
On a full out high revving race engine where money is no cost, bore/stroke ratio is a big issue. The 3.0 has a larger bore/stroke ratio due to the 3.2 having a longer stroke. The longer stroke generally makes more torque but may not rev quite as quickly = hp. (I know this is an incredible over-simplification, but there is some basis to it). Now if you take a 3.0 and over-bore it to 3.2 you get the best of both worlds, quck revving and displacement. Anyone know what the bore and stroke of that 3.0 RSR engine was? |
