BTW I have 4 each brand new take-off 16" SpaceMaster tires from 993s if others want to do this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1139705310.jpg Mark |
I need to replace the space saver tire in im 80 sc. How and where to I go about it? Mine just rotted away aber 25 years. thanks
|
The spare in my '74 actually has a 951 part number on it... and it works/fits perfectly.
Only down side... the shop that replaced the blown tire dropped the schraeder valve into the rim when deflating... and I haven't gotten it out yet! I may have to resort to pulling the tire, but every now and then I try and shake it out of the hole! |
I was considering my steel spare and using a single 4.5X15 fuchs, but if a 6X16 fuchs with 993 space saver will fit into my 80SC I'd rather go that route. Unimog has fit it into an 87, can anybody confirm if any other years have the same fuel tank profile?
|
Unimog...thanks...I'm quite sure from the pics that our tanks are the same ( 85 vs. 87).
Others may need to do a PET parts number search...but I think these went back to SC's too...there was either a smaller 16.4 gallon tank or the 22.5 gallon version. I think the 22.5 is common. -Wil |
My 6 X 15 Fuch, date stamped 10/75, and collapsible spare inside my 85 litre RS Tank..

I hope I was one of them Mark...as I indicated earlier to you in PM....
.... Right ? Just gettin' nervous 'cause stuff has slipped away from me before on similar, friendly "misundestandings".... :) - Wil EDIT.. oops!...sorry Mark, just checked my latest PM's and see that we're good to go. I'll be in touch..hold one for me. |
Bumping this thread for this question....
Does anybody use the dual-stem ( quick dump?) valve as used OEM on the steel wheel... with their new aluminum spare wheel ?? - Wil |
Just a thought Wil, if you are only concerned w/ quick deflate, as allowed w/ the stock space saver valve stem, you could always use a normal stem and put a valve cap on that has a valve core remover. Then you could loosen/remove the valve core and have an quick deflate.

not a bad idea....however was just wondering if the dual-stem valve on the steel wheel does this...and if it's being re-used in the alu configuration..... Wil |
I have a 7jx15 Fuchs rim that I would like to mount the spacesaver spare on for my '74. Will the spacesaver fit on the 7jx15 without damaging or modifying anything? Thanks!

Looks very nice! What size wheel is that? |

probably not. 15x6 is the max that a ss spare will deflate to and still retain the bead seal. anything wider and the sidewall will peel away from the bead as it deflates. I had to take a 1 1/4" section out of a 15x6 before my tire guy could get it to inflate and deflate and retain the bead seal. Bill K http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1190723338.jpg |

I hope nobody minds me bringing this back from the dead?
I am looking to mount a space saver on a Fuchs. from reading this and the other thread it seems that a 5.5x15 space saver may or may not fit a 6x15 Fuchs with out modification. It also seems that a 16" space saver from a 993 will fit a 6x16 Fuchs and fit in the recess of a stock 87 Carrera tank. Since I am running 16" Fuchs a 16" spare would be great. The question is I have a stock 74 tank is will the 16" 993 space saver on a 6x16 Fuch fit in the 74 tank recess? Thanks. DR |
