The real challenge is to drive fast, not steer a computer as it drives you.

No doubt, the modern cars with all the computers is faster than with those turned off. ABS alone is a major help. That is why I love my ancient 85 911, 100% driver car. No computers aiding the driver at all. It is a slug slow car with just 200 HP but it is lots of fun to approach the limits. I have driven modern Porsches around the track, and even a heavy barge like the Panamara is a way faster than my 911. It is all for fun, not a race.

I've never had any interest in how fast a computer can drive a car. That is a snooze fest.

The art of driving comes from doing it all yourself where any human mistake is really glaringly obvious. Analog humans in analog cars: That is exciting driving.
GH85Carrera points out what is good about driving. It is the experience not the numbers.

If they want to fix F1 they need to take all the computers out of them. Make it so any slight difference in superhuman ability becomes painfully obvious from the grandstand. Manual shifting with a manual clutch, manual acceleration with simple butterfly control, and manual brakes. All where a human's ability makes the difference.

(Or you can just let the computers race. No need for the huge design compromise from having to make room for a cockpit. You can lower the top of the car, save space between the front and rear of the chassis, and even remove the need for any driver safety systems! Yeah!! That'll bring in the crowds!!!)

Very cool. Keep your PDK and put it where the sun don't shine. I do this for fun and that includes a manual gearbox. The differences in lap times are for wieners to debate. John
