1970 911E with 12K on the clock!

I ran across this and thought it might be of interest to you guys, seems this one has been in a time machine, check out the 8-track player!

Its also a potential resource for the board as its rare to see one this original.

Enjoy

James

Hmmm.... a nice car for sure. Is it just me, or does the pedal/ carpet area look a bit more worn than a genuine 12k car should be?

Maybe the owner has spent years sitting in the car making ‘vroom vrooooom’ noises?

$60 000? Wow!

Yeah... for anything like that kind of price, it should be concours condition... ie: with no 8-track tape deck slung under the dash... no matter how cute and retro it may be.

Hmmmmn, I guess my price just went up...my answer to myself to the question: "not for sale, huh...well, IF you wanted to sell, what would the price be?"

Well, I'd withhold the celebration until someone actually buys this weird car. I'm guessing that it's worth ~1/2 what they are asking, to the right buyer. WTF do you do w/ a car like this?? And why didn't anyone ever want to drive it for 35 years?? As an investment, it did slightly better than potatoe salad.

And MAS, there is no wear in the pedal area of this car. What are you refering to? The dust from someone's shoes?

Is this the same car that was at the German Auto fest last year, (or the year before), that was a slow sale @ ~$30k?

I saw this car up close and personal when it was for sale two years ago. It is STUNNING! The owner at that time owned three early cars -- that E, a 73E (that I had driven to see) and a yellow 72S that was ultra sweet but not for sale then. The owner's story was while travelling through Arizona, he stopped at a gas station to fill up, where someone mentioned his car (the 72S) looked like a car a doctor friend of his had sitting in his garage. Apparently, this doctor had purchased that 911E new, and only a few years later, had a stroke. The car sat in his garage for close to thirty years until it was purchased and moved to California, southeast of Santa Barbara. When I saw it, everything on the car was original, including the tires. That 8-track player was purchased new from the Porsche dealership with the car. In 1970, that was some serious high fidelity! Now, I can't vouch for its mechanical condition because I didn't drive it, but visually, I've never seen a car that old, that close to showroom condition. As for buying it? I wanted a car to drive, not dust off. I thought it was overpriced then at $35,000. Today at $60,000? I'd rather buy some of what they're smoking to think of that price.

Uggghhh, too bad it is a Sporto. Those speakers in the doors dont help either and correct me if I am wrong, but arent those wheels late 15x6's instead of the correct deep 6's.

Cool

Correct wheels are 14" X 4 1/2". It is possible I suppose for an E to be delivered with steel 15" wheels. What's really funny is that the E was delivered with S brakes which will fit under the 14" wheels.

All of the E's that I have seen delivered came with "S" trim. I noticed that this one came with the "S" trim opiton.

I'm not sure your info is correct on the wheels. The 15" wheels were quite common and preferred in 1970 for a 911E. My 1969 911E had 14" standard issue (but not x 4 1/2) but you could get the car with 15" wheels.

If wonder if it still has the original struts? On such an original car you couldn't change those....and if you needed to replace them I would if the parts are NLA? Hmm.

The E was available with 14x5.5 or deep 6's in 1970. They are definatly not 14's and dont look to be deep 's to me. Could be wrong tho

Take a close look at the wheel & tire...those are Michelin XAS 185-14, on 14 x 5.5 Fuchs, proper for the car. Those tires are no longer available, not even from Coker, and they might well be the original (hard to believe) or replaced while they were still to be had.

I still have the original 185-14 XAS spare in my trunk, and thought something looked very familiar.

it is an amazing car (I remember it from GAF), but it will take someone who wants to bubble the car to buy it. I wonder if it got sold and now the new owner is trying to cash out.

I spent a lot of time looking at this car. It sold last Fall in the mid-$30s.

It's so nearly perfect, you just want to hold your breath standing near it.

Problem is this: What do you do with it?

When you drive it, you're bumping up the miles. If teenagers 'egg' it, you'll go postal. If somebody runs a red light... well, you get the idea.

IMHO, it belongs in a museum.

It is a very nice car, but no way it is worth $60K. I noticed the oil temp gauge has bands rather than numbers. My lowly 1970T has numbers on the oil temp gauge, but I have the S intrument option. Was that the difference?
