Store or (GASP!!) Sell??
I have a bit of a delima. I am going to be leaving the country soon on a much anticipated 1-2 year sailing sabatical throughout the Carribean. I have an 86 carrera the has a Ruf front end, exhaust mods, Steve W chip, etc. I have the car pretty much as I have always wanted and really enjoy driving her. Should I store the car ( in a barn with a very trusted family member to drive her once a month or so to keep everything up...or sell her? I have never considered selling before, but ..as I well know, I can always buy another one when I return to the states but I fear that I will regret it. I figure that I can easily get between 16-19k and just put the money in the bank.
Opinions?????? Thanks, Ben

You don't think you could get 20? Damn I paid to much for mine! What do you plan on cruising? Lately I've been drooling over mid eighties Lord Nelson 41's

I may be able to get more but I know at that I can move it quickly in the teens if I decide to go that route.
Can't quiet justify a Nelson. Going with my wife, our one year old girl and our 6 year old lab so I know the boat is going to get some what beat up. Still looking; mainly at Gulf Star, Irwin, Mason, and Morgan. Fast sailing is not a big a concern as usable, livable space. Any leads on good boats on the East coast appreciated. Ben

I admire you greatly! My kids are 4yrs and 5mo's. I consider them to young and to much of a pain in the a$$ to venture offshore at this point. Are you familiar with Yorktown? Very beamy/roomy for family and relatively inexpensive. Although they require some mods before going offshore.

Has anyone sold their car and regretted it later or been able to find another one to suit their needs. They did make quiet a few of these and I have never really been crazy about Red. I bought this one after looking for a year or so at dozens of cars and decided soley on condition.

Keep the car. Keep the car. Keep the car. Unless, and only if, the idea of the cruise is removing yourself and your posessions and truely releasing any touch with mainland living.
I admire your idea to go cruise for a year or so. I've often considered it but never came up with the will to give up on what I currently have to experience life in a way that cruising can give you. If I ever move back east, that itch might appear though.

-Hijack alert!-
I sold my first house to a lady who was leaving her husband after sailing the Caribbean for a year. Mom, Dad, 9-year old, dog, cat and bird turned out to be a bit crowded after several months of the ultimate lifestyle. Five wooded acres on Fox Island was as far away as she could get from the sailboat. |

I admire you as well. I’d love to do this but am scared of not finding a job upon returning. The Mason (43) is one of my favorite boats…Hans Christian as well…good luck on your endeavors! V/r Wayne C. 83 SC |

Keep the car but bring it to NC for storage. We can drive it on the track at least 4-6 times a year just to make sure it is running OK
PS Please include extra tires (Hoosiers).

Mike Z,
Maybe better tracks out West, but gas is cheaper here in NC which would naturally lead to more track time ![]() Leaky barn??? I can store the car in an climate controlled building.

Wife, kid and dog go with. Small spaces can be a strain but you can prepare for it and land is never that far away in the islands. If I do store it, the barn is very dry and it will in fact be in south western North Carolina (Franklin area). I probally will keep her; if I decide to stay longer and run low on cash I can always sell later. I bet the value want really change over a year or so.
