Exclamation Driving a Porsche in Southern California

Yes, Southern California is a beautiful place to live. You name it, we've got it. Women, water, waves, weirdos... whatever.

Included in that list is: a schit load of bad drivers with blatent disregard for the law.

Let me explain...

People really believe that they are "someone" in this fine metropolis. They believe where they are going is far more important than where you are going.

Run a red, cross double lines, illegal u-turn, it does not matter, just as long as you get to your destination 50 seconds faster.

Schit if there was just an accident involving a lowered Porsche, a jacked up 4runner and they are in your way. Hold down your horn and yell "Move out of the way you *****ing *********s!" and NEVER stop and think to yourself, "I wonder if those people are OK?"

Getting to my point...

If you drive your Porsche around Southern California hold the same mind set that track-racers have. "Only drive at the track what you can walk away from".

EDITED: For rudeness.

That really sucks! I'm sorry to see that your 911 was damaged, but at least you weren't damaged. I agree with you about SoCal drivers. I only drive my 911 on weekends and I try to avoid the freeways and congested areas. I've toyed with the idea of making my 911 my daily driver, but it would seriously increase the chance that I would get nailed by some idiot.

Philip,

I agree.

The cause is too much money, too little regard for others, and no sense of responsibility for their own actions.

Take your case on LA TV. Enlist others with nice cars (ricers, jacked 4-Runners, and low riders included.) Everyone has to drive on the same streets. Some just don’t know the basics of life.

I think drivers' ed is the key. What is the California DE requirements? Sign your name and get a license? Propose that anyone involven in ANY accident take a refresher course, paid for by the perp.

I would start with the teen driver crash-injury-death rate. That should get you the deserved attention. Get your new Governor involved.

Over the past 40+ years I have spent lots of time in LA. I choose to live and spend my money in Denver with no offense to all my LA friends.

Best,
Grady

You'd have gotten a lot more sympathy from me w/o the pic.

(EDIT: He took the pic of him giving the camera the finger down.)

Philip,
I agree with Milt.

We understand your anger and need to vent but focus on the solution. You can actually make things happen. Doesn’t Governor Schwartzeneger (sp?) have pre-driving tweens? Get involved with him.

Best,
Grady

Common sense and a healthy respect for other people. My biggest pet peave is drivers that don't pay attention to what they're doing and what's going on in the world around them. When you're behind the wheel, THAT should be your focus, not the cell phone, or the morning paper, or...

"Rear view mirror? That's for checking your hair, right? To see who's behind you in traffic? What a novel idea! I always wondered what those cute little mirrors on the outside were for!"

Grrrr... Don't get me started! I am constantly amazed at how ignorant and rude the bulk of people driving are. Left lane is for passing only @ssholes! As far as I'm concerned, if you're not going faster than everybody else around you, you've got no business being in the left lane when there's anybody remotely close to you. Our society is ridden with "me-me-me" and no regard for anyone else. "No one else in the world but you", as Don Henley says in his song.

Sorry for the rant, but I get a healthy dose of this kinda cr@p every day during my commute...

I feel your pain. I have heard estimates that LA's population will rise by over 6 million people in the near future. I can't imagine what that will do to the "quality of life" for driving around here.

I gave up and officially joined the ranks of a-hole drivers. If you're in the left lane going the speed limit but I want to go faster, too damn bad. You'll see me high-beams in your rear view and a finger as I go by in the (improper) right hand lane.

You want right of way at a stop sign? Screw you, I'm more important and my car is probably better so I'm going right now.

I want to turn left when the light goes green I'm just gonna go ahead and do it, before you morons in the opposing lanes even get your foot on the gas.

I want to stop in a no stopping zone and drop off my wife I'm just gonna stop. You fruitcakes behind me can just wait.

Hell, nobody has ANY regard for the laws or common courtesy so why should I waste my time with it? I don't like most of the laws anyway so I figure they pretty much don't apply to me.

I'm still a better driver than everyone else out on the road. Hell, that's one of the reasons I don't have to play by the rules everyone else should...

I just drive slow (not in the fast lane) and let everyone get there first...

Bummer about the car. Call Kevin. All can be fixed. Your thumb works so obviously you're OK (that's harder to fix).

you are lucky you are not in a motorcycle. As long as it's replaceable, it's not a problem.

Phillip, I feel your pain. My 930 was rear-ended last fall as I sat at the end of the offramp waiting for the light. I got off fairly lucky($2500 of lights/bumper guards/bumper shocks/paint etc.) Just a careless driver not paying attention but luckily driving a civic and having just gotten insured 10 days prior! Glad you weren't damaged.

Nice going. Bad day on the westside today? You maybe ought to chase Jack, Christian, Todd and even me in the hills. I promise to give you a run for your money before turning you over to them for a thorough thrashing. When you get back to the beach, you'll be purring instead of growling.

That's it, I'm replacing the rear bumper with a 6x6 with rail spikes sticking out. Yup, it'll be four feet off the ground too.

Must be CA. Drivers here are actually quite considerate, given that the American driving laws (passing on the right, low speed limits) actually breed bad road manners. I have to swat at the occasional ricer trying to provoke me, but that's about it
