I have seen some discussions of how to make a sport muffler out of a 2 in 2 out. Has anyone made a sport muffler using the stock 84-89 muffler? It is a good quality muffler (stainless). I have a 84 3.2 am running a test pipe and a Steve W chip but I want a bit more sound (test pipe helped). From Steve’s charts the SSI route makes very little if any power compared to a stock system, so I plan to stick with it (the SSI only use 35 mm pipes, vs. 37 stock!). The Dansk single in/out sports are around $600, nice piece but I want to save the $$ and I have a welder!
Thanks, David |

David,
You are ahead of me in that you have your own welder, but I counted on the knowledge of my local Porsche wrench and had him do the job. Talk to your wrench and get some opinions and options. For example, do you want to add a second outlet when you perform the internal muffler gutting? I had the muffler gut done for the track car, at the same time I installed the cat-bypass pipe. Cost was $200 for the muffler gutting, and I'm in a pretty high-rent region, so you may be able to get an even better price local to yourself. I noticed a big difference in power after the job, and the sound was not overly bad. I also noticed a significant increase in the amount of flow out of the muffler after revising the system. All good things! You might also want to try a search on "muffler and gut". Seems like a lot of hits, like this one: Gutted Exhaust Good luck, Tom

Adding a second tailpipe will add a bit of HP and deepen the tone.
