when they wanted to go slow!
actually, the fastest, albeit fragile, 308 (normally aspirated- the 288 GTO doesn't count) belonged to Joe Kunz here in So Cal. It was blindingly fast and aquitted itself well in sprint races. There's been a number of them built for scca and other events- some were even tube framed with glass bodies. A lot of dough spent on something that was ultimately slow or unreliable

I had a 308 - I think one of the biggest strikes against them as a race car was that they are incredibly heavy.

Those headlights make it look sorta like a Trans-Am late '60s Camaro

In defense:
1. The 1981 GTS 308 my buddy has is at least as quick my stock 1977 2.7L targa (no targa jokes please). 2. The 81 draws admiration, I have even seen small crowds gather, some even take pictures (okay they were Asian). 3. Unreliable? well it has had a few quirky problems, it's an old car. I've had a few problems too. Now I realize that my friends car is not raced, and you are all taking about racing. So I guess I will just shut up then. On the up side the pasta maker will be holding it's value, or at least more so than my Porsche. Of course he paid something like $31,000 for his clean copy and could of purchased three 1977 911's.

Yikes! That's just not right.
Not to worry, if I ever get seduced into joining the dark force, it'll be a Dino. I saw that car on Saturday. Somehow it just looks wrong on the 308. Much better on a proper 911: ![]() Or better yet on a 917. This is pure sex:

Now that's more like it.
For the record, if I was not able to talk my buddy into purchasing his car, my wife would of never understood me buying the 911.

A late 70s, early 80s Alfa Romeo GTV would be quicker around a racetrack than a same-vintage Ferrari 308.

Why in the world would *anyone* apply a Gulf/Wyer blue and orange paint scheme on a Ferrari ( 308 or not)....the nemesis colors of a Ferrari ??? Never happened. Arch enemy colors, even! .....

MM, I definitely agree: Ferraris are good for zero to bed in 4.3 blocks, GTV's are just "cute" nice but cute

Confuse the competition. One better would be to have it all dressed up like a cop car, make them do a double take in the rear view mirror............then pass them.

Not used to seeing this color scheme on non-Porsches either, but I suppose it makes sense being an Italian company.

including Lancias, Porsches, Fords, etc... --Wil

Strange. Gulf sponsored many type of cars (Porsche, Ford, Mirage, McLaren, Caterham, Fiat Abarth, etc.) but I don't recall ever seeing or hearing about a Ferrari either!!
Although somebody with an imagination did this:
