'70T engine number

Hi,

I just bought a 1970 911T Targa with a VIN #9110112515 and an engine number of 901 106101 5R. Can anyone tell me if this VIN and engine are correct? If not, is it a T engine, E engine, or S and what production year? Thanks.

dkm

The VIN number shows that it's a 1970 911T
The engine # you gave though looks like a casting #

The real engine ID #s are stamped near the fan housing support on the right side of the engine (see below pic)

Andrew M

Hi,

Thanks for the info, but is there any disassembly needed in order to read the numbers?

nope - just take a look at the base of the fan on the RIGHT hand side - the upright where the fan housing mounts should show the engine serial #

Porsche Crest

Make that the RIGHT hand side of the fan housing support ... looking at the engine as it sits in the engine bay!

You will probably need a good cleaning rag to wipe off the dust and dirt over the engine 'Type Number' ...

Hi,

Thanks for the info...The engine number is 6117859 and the engine type number is 911707 or 911/07, I couldn't quite make out the fourth number/character from the left. Thanks.

Engine Type 911/07 is a 2.2L 911T (USA)
Engine # 6117859 looks to be a 1971 motor (610xxxx were 1970 911T)
If it is a 1971 version engine, it's a good find as they had piston oil squirters.

Regards,
Andrew M
