Porsche Crest 911 GT1 or Carrera GT?

Say that you just came across a sick amount of money and you've decided it's time for a Porsche supercar. The Carrera GT is an obvious choice, yes? But, for close (OK more) to the same money, you could track down one of the rare 911 GT1 street cars instead. Assuming that you could only have one, which would it be and why?

I voted 911 GT1, but please with 993 headlamps instead of those in the picture.

I'd take the CGT in this instance. Now if it was a GT1/98..

Great question!

GT1 has the 911 lineage, awesome performance, cool looks (except the aforementioned lights) and exclusivity.

The CGT has unique but still Porsche looks, awesome performance, some degree of exclusivity, and it is topless.

So, I'll choose the CGT...topless tips the scales.

That's a tough one, but I'd have to go with the CGT

I've actually been fortunate enough to drive both, as a car writer, and I vote GT1, assuming we're not talking about which one you are awarded and immediately resell. More pure fun, the GT1 is the best 911 I've ever driven. You could perfectly easily use it as a daily driver, park it on the street (few people would notice), run it down to the 7-11 or across the country in relative comfort, which is more than you can say for the CGT, as incredible a car as it is.

Hmm the choices are...

(a) - I look like a race car and I have lots of parts like you might find on a race car but they never really intended to race me.

(b) - I am a race car and I was built with the single purpose of being flogged as hard as possible, continuously, for hours and hours, but if you are crazy enough you could get away with driving me on the street.

Gee, tough choice. The guys at the country club will probably turn their noses up at the GT1 but I probably won't notice because they will just be blurs as I streak by.

Definitely the GT1, before all the EVO versions like everyone else said, with the 993 headlights. Were these still air cooled?

CGT: open top, better throttle response, easier to hop in and out of .

I believe all the gt-1's were watercooled. And i'd also take the gt-1 over the cgt. There's no replacement for that feeling when the boost hits, and in the gt-1 it must be that much crazier when it does.

not to poo poo the thread but I would have to take as my namesake says, the 1995 Dauer 962 street version. No explanation is needed there, although I would want a regular gearbox instead of the pdk.

As for the above mentioned cars I would take a CGT over the GT1 because im pretty sure the GT1 got its but whooped in racing by the mercedes and didnt joest beat the factory with his own car design at the sarthe?

why do i even bother its not like i have that much laying around.

I wouldn't buy either. If I had that kind of money (which I don't) I'd pay someone to go buy the GT-1 for me
