Atl Pelicans- Who's going to Talledega DE (8/28)
I was wondering if anybody else from the Atlanta area is going to the Talledega Grand Prix DE on 8/28. I was planning on leaving straight from my office in the Buckhead area on Friday afternoon (8/27) to beat the traffic (if that is possible on a Friday).
Anybody want to to try and make it a group drive or maybe just meet up in Oxford for dinner on Friday. Andrew

I might stop by R/A as a spectator this weekend (I'm not "solo" yet). I found the TGP DE on the Alabama PCA web site. It didn't seem to show-up on any other of the track schedule web sites. Doesn't even show up on the TGP web site now that you mention it!

They are still advertising it on the web site. There might still be time and/or space available.

My Blkbird is in the shop.
When I had my suspension work done (shocks, t-bars and sway bars) the shop lowered the car radically. So much so that the negative camber was enough to run the car on just the inside tread of the tires. Sort of like running around on your toes all the time I guess. Anyway in less than 3,000 miles the front tires are worn to the cords, but only on the inside 2" of the tread. Car was supposed to be ready next day... they didn't even look at it for three. Then out for re-alignment and then they ordered new tires. Could we not have ordered the new tires on day 1? Talk about wasting time. Bit PO'ed to say the least.

BummerChris
Dont you hate that when you think you have a relationship - I mean you have spent a chunk of change. Then its like you dont exist next time!! I think the problem is the shops decide you are "theirs" and dont treat you with respect. FYI. I dont believe you could ware the tires out that fast just from Camber. I beleive the toe was way off (toed out). Was the turn in just incredible? The alignment guy must have had the head on crooked or something slipped.... or they just skipped it - drove it around the block and it didnt pull...that will be $150 please.. Not to be cynical I have just seen it too many times. I cant afford any DEs any body up for a mountain run!!

By "too late now" I meant that I have obligated myself to other things during those days. Bummer. By a cruel act, while you fellas are heading west to the track I will be heading east to Atlanta on business.

My office is at Securities Centre on Peidmont Rd. There is a red cab that parks in my parking deck occationally, might be the same one. There are also about 3 other P-cars. I haven't met any of them though. Usually I drive the 911 on Fridays. I have the AC hoses off to be redone so lately I usually drive my Tacoma to work unless the weather is cool. But the weekends are top down cab time for sure. ----------------- Elombard I have been itching to do a mountain run since I got my 911 back in nov. '03, but I don't have a free weekend untill the middle of Sept. Are we talking about a "planned" event or do we just show up at "Donuts" one Sat morning and go? ------------------ Chris (Blkbird) Please check your PMs

Say no more about "keeping the peace", I've been there and continue to do that!
Where do you usually go for a mountain run? A friend sent me this web site. Has anybody done the "Tail of the Dragon" up in TN/NC? It would be a full days trip at best, but it looks amazing! Tail of the Dragon

Yes I have heard the dragon is phenomenal. Bit far to go though. Usually just up out of Dahlonega - the north GA mountains. The roads are amazing. Unfortunately there is alot of tourists at times and you can get stuck in some slow sections but there is always a good bit of fun.

A fellow I work with (the 'vette guy who bought the modded Carrera) goes to the dragon twice a month. He sais it just isn't worth it any more due to all the traffic. Apparently he can't get a good run between corners before climbing up on another car. The peaky nature of his car makes that kind of driving no fun at all.

The Tail of the Dragon is a great run but there when we did it the weather looked pretty bad from the South side (Blairsville). As a result there was little North bound traffic and we had a great time.
But if you plan on being back by 1-ish, forget about it! Not sure how but you somehow end up miles to the North (the Tail is supposedly 318 turns in 11 miles). Even coming home on I-75 took the better part of a couple of hours. As for a planned run, I'd suggest going from Elijay to Chatsworth. Another fun run but you have to get there early to beat the Winnibegos. Side point - who in their right mind takes a Winnibego onto a twisty mountain road? Either way - please wait for my car to get back out of the shop before we go. I'd hate to stay home pining for the fiords!

Finally, after two or three weeks, got my car back. And then took it back in the next day. I love the shop and the work they do but damn, I wish they would be more thorough sometimes. I know they had the car for a heck of a long time but you't think they would check and make sure the tire had clearance after the alignment was redone.
A 45 minute fix and now she is back home in all her glory. And what is that "I beam" like structure in the right front wheel well for anyway? Held in my four bolts accessed from behind the parking/signal light and out it came. No more gashing my new tire but I would like to know why Porsche installed it in the first place. Any one know? And is anyone ready for a road trip?
