The right side mirror on my SC is perfect. However the left side and rear view mirrors vibrate so bad that I can't make out what kind of vehicles are behind me. I can take care of the rear view problem, but I've read on this forum that these side view mirrors are a b***ch to remove and replace. True? Also, what is the fix for this problem? Is the glue (or whatever) coming loose?
Thanx, Brian

maybe try a weather stripping product around the exterior mirror to keep it more stable? kinda stuff it in the seam between mirror and housing?
just spitballing here.

Something to try:
There is a locking ring at the bottom of the glass that holds the glass in place. Maybe it is loose. Press the glass in @ bottom. Insert a small screwdriver through the hole in the bottom of the housing and find the locking ring slots. Turn the ring clockwise to tighten. If it won't tighten any more, turn the ring counterclockwise. This will let you remove the glass. Behind the glass are 3 screws that hold the motor in place. Tighten them. Let us know if that does it.

What year did this lock ring turn into 3 spring snap clips? I recently bought and installed a used right side mirror complete. I was able to remove the glass by gently prying on it with hard plastic knife. Not sure what year car the mirror was on originally.
Yes, there's 3 screws that hold the rubber surrounded mirror housing and also 2 screws that hold the flag to the base/stem and don't forget the allen screw that holds it to the door. Last edited by TerryH; 08-26-2004 at 05:40 PM.. |
