Aav
So my AAV, since i put the motor back together hasn't worked. I took the connector off, and tested for power going to the valve with the ignition in the run position, and nothing. Then i read that it's hooked up to the same power as the warm up regulator, so i disconnected that and tested it, and nothing. I also read that the power sources come from the o2 relay. Would not running an 02 sensor cause it to not give power to the WUR and the AAV? Or does the car have to be started and running in order for the test to work?

When wiring the 930 engine in my '78 SC I had a similar problem. The car had to be running to power the AAR. What I found out later was that I don't need the AAR anyway. It also had an anoying habbit of making the engine scream briefly when starting warm.

Thank you for the reply rarly. I looked into the wiring diagram more in depth and in the 80-83 sc's, the wur and aav are both wired to recieve power from the same terminal on the fuel pump relay as the fuel pump. Meaning, that the sensor plate switch needs to be activated in order to give power to both the fuel pump, and wur/aav. I jumped power from terminal 87A to 30 on the fuel pump relay and vuala, the fuel pump turned on with the ignition (without starting the car) and the aav/wur connectors went hot. So, they are in fact getting power. Then i used a mirror, and hooked the aav back up, power it up, let it get power for awhile, and it went from a 30% open state, to closed in about 5 min or so, never fully open. So i concluded that maybe the aav doesn't open fully unless it's cold out (still hot here in NM). I thought that during initial starts it always opened fully, i guess i was wrong.

The AAV activates using a bi-metal strip that is heated by electricity when the car starts. It also reacts to ambient air temperature. Take the unit out and stick it in your freezer. It should open about 1/2 to 3/4. Once returned to room temp you will see it has closed significantly on its own.
By the way, I also have one fast red SC.
