Targa Body Brace from our host.

Does anyone have any experiance with the body brace available from pelican? I know it wont be in the same league as a cage but I have a lead on a cheap one.
Is there any reason this would not work/fit a cabriolet

I think it bolts to the shoulder strap mounting point on the targa bar. I don't think the mounting point would be the same for a cab.

Several people have tried it. Thom Fitzpatrick had it in his car when it was still a targa. He said it did make an appreciable difference in the stiffness of his car. Of course he changed his car to a cab and has a roll bar.

I never had one of these, specifically; I had a Brey-Krause harness bar, which has a piece like this and a bar going across.

Here's what I ended up doing; this made a huge difference in stiffness.

The targa brace will not fit a cab.

The mounting distance is different and because of the thicker interior quarter panel there is not a clear shot between the two seat belt mounts to which the targa brace attaches.

Thanks all
Looks like that idea out the window, its just there was one on Ebay.uk for £10 and thought its got to be worth a try.
I've had a good look at Thoms site a few times but although I track my car quite a bit hes mods are too serious for me (impressive though) as I've got to worry about insurance issue and future resale value.
Ill have a look at Brey-Krause and think about more bolt in fixes

The Brey Krause harness bar has the same thing, a strut from the harness bar to the lap belt mounting point. Very nicely made, you can find used ones like mine for about $200 - 250.00 US.

The Brey-krause harness bar braces are intended to brace the harness bar not the car all though there my be some incidental effect.
The targa bar is much heavier material and designed to brace the car via a direct route between the body bolts.
I have a cab bar designed and just need to work out a few small details on the installation before i release it.

Kevin,

I have those on my Targa and it made enough of a difference that I could feel the car stiffen up a bit. They do mount to a shoulder harness bar between the Targa bar, then down to the seat bolt mounting points. Ties everything in very nicely...

How does it look? They look a little blingy for my tastes. The car in the photo at the top looks like my interior.

If you perfer something other than the polished alum bar you could paint , powder coat or anodize to any color or finish you like. Just go over them with a scotch brite pad for a just machined look.
