OK, I'll be the first to ask: anybody have an idea what's in the wooden bax in the first picture? The way is it strapped in makes it almost seem like it was an afterthought.

These are definately some oldies but goodies :)

TerryH 08-28-2004 03:07 PM

either champagne glasses or ballast

jbryant 08-28-2004 03:08 PM

Doug- Good question.

Curt- Where do find this stuff?!

toolman 08-28-2004 03:13 PM

The good China?

cegerer 08-28-2004 03:24 PM

Well, it says "Warning Glass" on the side ..... I'm guessing ballast.

Also note the steering wheel in this then state-of-the-art race car - the good old Prototipo from the late 60's!

cegerer 08-28-2004 03:28 PM

Another point of interest is the interior door panels. Look like thin fiberglass to me and the SC/RS in the Paris-Dakar thread have basically the same panels. Surprised you SC boys haven't replicated these yet .......

Does anyone besides me (and Curt, obviously) save all of these pictures and magazine reviews, etc.. on their computer organized in different categories?

I think I was born in the wrong time. The modern cars are very exciting, whether it be CGT, GT3RSR, F1, etc..., but nothing is quite as exciting as the cars of old from the 50's though the 70's. I guess the racecars of the day pretty much parallel the street cars if you think about it. THe appeal of the automobile definitely went to crap in the 70's for the most part. There were a few things that hung on, but not many.

Thank you, Curt, for filling my collection.

In your honor I'll pull out my fabulous DVD of Le Mans to watch today.

Az911 08-28-2004 05:14 PM

That has to be the coolest 911 ever made

masraum 08-28-2004 06:06 PM

Well, it is cool, but...

Instrumentation for their testing?

masraum 08-28-2004 06:11 PM

Someone packed a picnic lunch for the nice spot on the back straight?

cegerer 08-28-2004 08:00 PM

Here's another that's pretty cool. I'm not really sure what this is, but I think it may be the first version for the 935. This is 1976 at Silverstone. Anybody know?

Man, that's an awesome movie!! THanks Curt!

And Johann Ritter's babe is a fox. :)

The Martini car is a 934 Turbo RSR..

76911S 08-29-2004 11:00 AM

The box in the moby car might have been holding a cooler of some sort for a cool suit. Can’t see a plumbing though.

What really scary is the all aluminum roll cage yikes...

GeorgeK 08-29-2004 11:53 AM

The Martini car is the first version of the 935

project935 08-29-2004 12:11 PM

Yes - that's the 935 prototype ... kinda the route I'm thinking of going with my project.
